Pretty sure overnight continuity on ITV hasn't been live for about two decades - certainly when I used to record Funny Business, the old comedy review show, off overnight ITV in 1996, they used the same continuity announcement into it every week for about six months, And I'm pretty sure they would never get a continuity announcer to read breaking news, if it was important enough to interrupt the schedule they'd get a newsreader in there.

Depending what Night Time service you got, but the LNN/Dancers Night Time service had live announcements on weekdays, ie when Carlton was on air, but on the LWT side of things they didnt like paying announcers to stay overnight, so for them all night time announcements were pre-recorded or just didn't exist. I'm sure it stayed this way until National continuity appeared in October 2002.

That's how I understood it, they were live weekdays and recorded at weekends, . I think when national continuity started it either went live daily before going recorded daily at a later date, or went straight to being recorded daily.

The recordings now are done properly with each night having new announcements, the old weekends used to use the same announcements week in week out.

Well, that would have made sense because Funny Business was on a Saturday. I used to know the announcement off by heart ("as we find it's a very... Funny Business!"). Anyway, a leaf through the Radio Times for Diana week points out that the scheduled newsreader for ITN on the Sunday was, funnily enough, Denis Tuohy, although a leaf through several editions from that autumn suggests the regular Sunday newsreader at the time was usually Nicholas Owen - who was there on the night of course in his role as Royal Correspondent. Carol Barnes did the Saturday news that weekend, as she did more or less every Saturday at the time. Dermot Murnaghan would rarely have been on Sundays at the time, he was doing the lunchtime news every day, hence why I'm assuming he was drafted in as on-call senior presenter.

I do remember this forum getting terribly excited a few years back when Huw Edwards turned up doing the Saturday teatime news and wondering if he'd been called in because some terrible tragedy was about to be announced. But there wasn't.

Ian Axton has tweeted a couple of pics of a temporary studio being built in Bristol for use during the rebranding!

It appears freelancer Sangeeta Kandola will present the final Morning News on the 21st.

Main Bulletin just then started to end with the regional closing theme, before hastily being cut with the National theme albeit crashing into the Weather.

Afraid not wasn't capturing on the laptop at the time. Saw it on TV though and yes the evening bulletin started with the regional close which faded out and quickly cut to the ITV News closing theme but then the end-board appeared and the theme was cut straight to the weather! James also did the whole sign off in completely the wrong camera during the late bulletin at 21:50.

I would expect the much talked about move of itv Granada to Media City will now happen when the new look happens in January?

It would be daft to move beforehand but do we have an exact date for the rebrand and any idea other than dark blue what Regional News will look like? Will we still see a city background?
