There are good reasons for that.

Don't get me wrong - I wasn't intending to sound rude or "impertinent". I just feel the shots are too distant and too far away from the presenter. If the camera can't be moved more forward, then that's understandable.

Thanks for the Lightwell info Mike. Not too long to wait until it is revealed on screen. There has been so much buzz around the new look ITV News (e.g. on Twitter from those who've seen it/working on it), so I'm quite looking forward to January...!

I also fired an email off to the press office, ITV News' new logo apparently is solid and looks 'right' - that's as far as the press contact would expand on it!

Well Im shocked they have axed it. With budget cuts the way they are i assumed that the bulletin was only there to fill the quota as some have said. I mean 8/10 it is last nights News at Ten but more recently the presenter and the likes of Yao Chin have started filling reports. It's no great loss to be frank although I will miss it personally. I just wonder where this leaves Faye & Charlene. I would like to see Faye move to national weekends. Charlene take over the daytime weekends (9:25am, Lunchtime News & London Tonight) full time, maybe regularly host Fridays LT and be a main Relief. And then Faye doing the prime time weekend bulletins full-time (Evening & Late) with her maybe also becoming regular on the 1:30 news. Or maybe move Keep Alastair on 6:30 news only and have Faye & Charlene as main presenters on the 1:30 news.

Well with the axing of the 5:30 news, I would like to see Faye move to national weekends. Charlene is down for presenting this Saturday's primetime bulletins in the listings. We shall wait and see if they are correct.

And presumably you're not going to share them.

That's a bit impertinent - a trait that seems to be all too commonplace on this forum. Actually, I was on the road, working on a programme whilst briefly browsing this thread. I thought I'd quickly make the point that there are good reasons for the way we do things. I can list them all if you like (it's mainly to do with camera positions, angles of view and the setups we use for different programmes) but I shouldn't imagine it would make that much sense without being in the studio.

Actually, it feels like many of your posts deliberately hold back information, which can be quite annoying after a while.

I think your post describes excellently why professionals working in television don't seem to post on this forum as much as you might like. I choose Twitter as my main medium for engaging with people interested in television news, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who says I don't answer all questions courteously and offer as much information as I can to people who are interested.

Do I withold information that I could reveal? Yes, of course: that's the necessary and responsible thing to do as an employee. I am currently involved with blocking and planning the shots and look for the revamp of ITV News in January. Do I deliberately lord that retention of information on this forum? No, I don't think I do. If that's "annoying" to you, I'm very sorry. It's certainly not intended to be so. I was just trying to be helpful.

I think I'll probably stick to Twitter...

I wouldn't blame you. There's a complete lack of gratitude and respect on this site at times towards those in the industry. For what it's worth, I always enjoy reading what you have to say (and I completely understand why you can't say more than you do). I'll seek you out on Twitter.

Ditto, though I mainly lurk in this thread.

No one expects you to spill commercial secrets, ignore Joe.

I think he means that it can often seem like you're deliberately holding back information you could tell us - not ITN top secret documents or suchlike. Sometimes you will, say, disagree with a member, and then not follow up with an explanation. Remember that the majority of members here aren't particularly knowledgeable; you sometimes talk to members like they should know something that seems obvious to you, but isn't obvious at all.

I don't know whether your curtness is due to you being used to Twitter - this is a forum, and longer posts filled with what may seem like tiny, irrelevant details excites many members here - just see the Presenters and Rotas threads.

Members here appreciate your posts, but they often need an explanation as to why you can't reveal something, or satiating with boring details.

No problem - I didn't mean you, Nicky. Opinion on shots is always welcome and a subject close to my heart! Wink

I'm not sure I've done that.

My posts on here are deliberately few and far between, and I could comment a great deal more than I do. As I say, I choose Twitter as my main medium for sharing my view of things including behind-the-scene posts, live-tweeting and photos. Just occasionally (look at my post count compared to many others) I add something here for information or interest that I hope will be helpful. As others have intimated, it sometimes causes more bother than seems worthwhile!

I don't think I've been "curt" - I'm well able to adapt to different formats, thanks! But what I do have is a full-time job, so long posts are something I genuinely don't have time for! Again, almost all of the questions about ITN's output that I see on here are regularly answered my me and many other friends and colleagues on Twitter. YMMV.

I think I've covered that!

In that case, a weird question - what are the most difficult, technically, shots you can do in the current arrangement and why? Is it possible to confuse the VR system by trying to pull a shot off?
