Getting a bit picky now - correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the later bulletins at around 10pm were considered "the main news", rather than the early evening bulletins? Certainly the BBC and ITV both used to introduce late bulletins as "the main news" in the '80s and '90s although things may have changed.

Well the main ITV News from 1999 onwards was the Evening News. Trevor McDonald moved to that programme in 1999 and even when News at Ten returned in 2001, it was only 20 minutes long. When News at Ten returned in 2008, it probably became the "main" news again, but I guess it's open to interpretation as the 6.30 programme is still high profile.

Yes, I'd agree with you on that, Brekkie. The BBC does put a lot more emphasis on the Ten O'Clock News.
If you recall, in the 1990s the Early Evening News was only 15 minutes long whereas News at Ten was about 30 mins. In 1999 it swapped round so the Evening News became 25-30 mins and the Nightly News was only 20 mins. Even when News at Ten returned in 2001, it was effectively the Nightly News at 10pm hosted by Trevor, clocking in at 20 mins. At the moment, both the Evening News and News at Ten are 25-30 mins each and whilst they do save some reports for 10pm, the 6.30pm programme gets more viewers. I'd say both are considered equally important at the moment.

I think that both broadcasters still consider the late news the "main bulletin" as it is often regarded as the "bulletin of record" with the best quality packages of the main news of the day to properly document the news of that day.
Fewer stories are covered just with live reporters, and more production resources dedicated to the packages, and often the late bulletin gets the big guns (editors rather than just correspondents packaging) who may have been spending the day working to a single bulletin rather than spreading themselves across multiple outlets and bulletins.

The "random" yellow squares on the front of the desk are the ITV logo!
My only gripes are the staid one person camera shots, the random sized yellow squares on the front of the desk

Except the logo says 'ITV News' but the random squares don't. Perhaps the desk would look better if they put the actual logo on it ... a medium-sized version centered on each panel?
