I wonder where this will leave presenter rotas for ITV London?

"The main presenting line up on the show is not thought to be at risk."

I suspect that sentence refers to the Daybreak lineup

Personally speaking it will be a shame to see the ITV Morning News go. Have recently started watching it on ITV1+1 and I much prefer it's formal bulletin style compared to Breakfast/Daybreak/Sunrise. However if the money goes into improving coverage at times when most people watch then hopefully it will make for a better overall news service from ITV

I wonder if ITV will still keep a duty overnight presenter once the Morning News is gone? If they don't chances are they will get caught out one Sunday morning, but on the other hand it's probably only once in a generation an unplanned news event happens overnight that would require rolling coverage from ITV

I agree. I've watched the bulletin for nearly 20 years, and it was a superb digest of the news. I can understand why it's being axed though.

Surprised it's lasted this long really considering the numerous cut backs over the years, so although in some ways not a surprise it's actually a bit of a surprise they're doing it now. Presumably the over night bulletins will be going too.

Indeed, I'm surprised they didn't axe it years ago, it was almost as if ITN were providing it for free that it managed to stay on air through all the cut backs.

yeah, note the word 'rotas'... I never suggested that anyones job is at risk I was questioning how the presenting rotas which adhere to a current pattern will be affected.

My bad.

Possible Faye/Charlene reverting to 7 day on 7 day off inc. weekend LT? They are contracted to ITN unlike the others. The Arts Correspondent could even crop up then if they only want to use staff like other ITV plc regions.

I'm surprised it's lasted this long to be honest, most of the time when I watch it's usually a repeat of News At Ten with a bit of NBC thrown in for good measure. Although I feel they wasted an opportunity not to promote it alongside Daybreak, but as others have said I can sympathise with the axing, and good that its been invested online, I don't tend to look on the actual website itself much but it's very user friendly on Safari on iOS, plus the drop down feature for the Regions is useful aswell, something that the BBC News mobile app doesn't have.

I was always under the impression that it only continued to meet some kind of quota of news on ITV.

Am I mistaken on that?

I don't think the Morning News counts towards their quota. AFAIK, it is only produced to give the night crew something to do, as the newsroom needs to be maned 24/7 in case of any breaking news. I might be wrong on that, though.

I guess then ITN now supplies the news to Daybreak, so they'd be a crew of some sort working on that - or at the very least the London bulletins.

They used to drop it over Christmas so they could air CITV but they stopped doing that a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure its part of the quota otherwise they wouldn't be so lenient with it (unless they met it before they dropped it).

It will be a shame to see it go and I imagine may be the first of a few 'terrestrial' bulletins to disappear over the next couple of years, but it will be no great loss as it was just a rehash of the previous nights News at Ten with a bit of NBC News thrown in. I do think that maybe they've missed a trick by not tying the first hour of Daybreak in with the ITV News brand, especially with this latest news.

What are they replacing it with? Nightscreen, or an 'Early Daybreak' programme? Much like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Today
