Thanks for pointing out those YouTube clips. How bizarre! The ABC Australia use of Best Endeavours actually works quite well (and the bed does sound quite fitting) but the Italian remix of The Awakening is just... The Slovenian one is quite amusing in that the chimes of Big Ben are all but ignored, with the newscaster just carrying on speaking all over the theme.
On the subject of the ITV music, I do think it would be a good idea to quietly drop the bongs from all bulletins except NAT - but I fear they've been utilising them far too long for them to ever consider relegating them to just one bulletin, although it worked well like that for decades.
The bong sequence or the bong as a sound effect? If you mean the latter, what would it be replaced with?
I don't mean get away from the headline sequence - I mean the "bong"/chime sound effect. It could be replaced with another a percussive effect, they've done that in the past. It's been agreed many, many times on here that the 1995 look worked quite well - ITV successfully managed to align everything with News at Ten without resorting to using the chimes for the 12:30, 5:40 and weekend bulletins.
(In fact I recall seeing a weekend news bulletin earlier this year and the headline sequence didn't have any chime effects in it - don't know why they weren't present, but it did work quite well without.)
New music, new virtual set and titles coming in January in a blue colour scheme.
Reports on Twitter from tonight's reveal suggest the titles are modern, contemporary and it's a whole new look for the virtual set.
But are the bongs safe and does the Big Ben clock face have a place?
I want the clock face back in some form, and the music to change.
The latest promo has amazing music but it's quite similar to BBC News. I actually think it's better than the BBC's music though so I wouldn't mind if they used a variant of that!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new look. Fresh, modern, contemporary - sounds very good to me.
I just hope some continuity remains. I brought up the idea of losing the bongs for all except NAT, but I do hope they don't ditch them completely. It would be interesting to see whether or not they have chosen to keep the relevant motifs from The Awakening or go in a different direction after 17 years!
