I really like the voiceover. I don't have a problem with it and they should leave it as it is in my opinion. Also the theme has grown on me and I like that too.

I'm starting to really like the look. My only gripes are the staid one person camera shots, the random sized yellow squares on the front of the desk, how far back the wide shot is from the desk and ruining News at Ten. Other than that it's good. Laughing

They should do a real wide shot, and have the presenter trying to dodge the stories on the mad rush towards the desk before the headlines. Then the titles would make sense.

It gives the news a clean look but it all seems a bit bland to me. I do think the voiceover with the names is a nice touch and I miss that small detail from BBC News. However, the voice ITN uses doesn't carry much weight or gravitas to me and it isn't a patch on Patrick Lunt's voice on the BBC News back in the 80's.

Go here and scroll down to The One O'Clock News from 1986 to see what I mean.

I think the voiceover is fine, although it lacks the authority that the 1990s one had. My only real gripe is the random pauses before "at 6.30" and "at 10.00", which can be edited out quite easily if not re-recorded. Just sounds as if it's the "ITV News" that happens to be "at ten" rather than a programme called the "ITV News at Ten".

Anyway, take a look at the first first seconds of this YouTube clip. Back in the day when he was nothing but a lowly weekend newscaster. Laughing

Talking of lowly weekend newscasters, must say that Chris Ship is one of the better second tier presenters - certainly better than Geraint Vincent.

That's the idea, making ITV News the main brand just like BBC News did at the big rebrand a few years ago.

I like Chris Ship. I first saw him presenting the weekend news a few months ago and ever since then I always notice him, usually as the senior political correspondent.

I do like Geraint as well, but I agree that Chris is a better studio presenter.

Mary Nightingale with the weekend news on Sunday. Looks like this is becoming quite the norm, senior presenter on Sunday's that is.

I bet Julie and Mark won't make an appearance at the weekend, and they have more time off than the rest of them.

I think the only one that we won't see is Mark - I couldn't see him working more than a 4/5 day week!! Laughing
