Although there is no doubt it's the top story of the day and it'll dominate the news agenda for the next couple of days at least I'm not really convinced the Manchester shootings today warranted the on-location hosting job with ITV sending both Alastair and Mark up to Manchester. It's also not really a rolling news story where having a host on location can enable them to file reports or the story will develop around them. I've no issue with on-location presenters for big stories - but I don't think this is one where the story or presenter benefitted from it.

Well, that's certainly one view. Although with respect, maybe your argument was a little diluted by your opening thoughts:

And looks significantly better - the studio never looked great upscaled unlike N6 at the BBC. Excellent lighting and picture quality now.

Wonder how long we'll be waiting till Channel 4 News gets the same treatment?

Sound is awful, though, on Sky and Freeview.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. Levels far too high or something.

Sound in SD is fine, the keyed panels look really bad on the desk.

Yes, I've got SD playing alongside HD on my desktop. It's okay on SD, but on HD it's very noticeable on the studio-based audio.
