Actually, thinking about it... does anyone else think they could return to live shots like that for opening titles? I think it would work very well for NAT. It'd make a nice change from CGI title sequences that we've had for a strong decade or more!
Absolutely, it would make for a refreshing change. Although the detail is very good, I was somewhat disappointed to see computerized titles for the BBC's Olympics coverage. I always think real live-action shots are preferable over designs done on computer. The last one to feature real footage I can think of is News at Ten between 1992 and 1999. Since then it's all been virtual/computer graphics.
The 90s News at Ten titles still strike me as one of the best set of titles for a news programme - so simple yet effective. I know many are fans of the original Awakening, but I think the 90s remix was timely and didn't sound cheap by any stretch.
And I still really like the set - even after all this time I think it just works - and was always well lit which again just suited the kind of programme it was. And it must have been effective, considering The Day Today pretty much used its design to spoof a typical news programme.

There's the 2003-2005 Five News.. That's it I think though.
I like the Olympic "insets" they've been using all this week at the top of NAT, almost seems like a throwback to earlier eras of ITV News! Reminds me of this...

Normal close theme used over a montage with Mark voicing it, didn't reallywork and sounded wrong without the 'And that is tonight's ITV News at Ten, coming up next' .
Apologies if this has been previously mentioned; I don't visit the ITV News thread much, so if I missed this previously, sorry!
I was watching Battleship last night, and spotted this rather unexpected insert:
Obviously, the 21:9 aspect ratio and dodgy graphics are just a mock-up for the movie, but I think this is the first time I've ever seen an ITV News placement in an international film. Most international movie efforts (and Hollywood in particular) default either to BBC News/BBC World News (such as in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, or Poseidon), or even Sky News (I think I recall seeing Sky News in movies as far back as the mid 1990s).
