I think the rumoured shuffling of NAT for IACGMOOH is a very mad move. I think the audience are prepared to accept changes for live sporting events, but not for gameshows which are just scheduled at the whim of the network to a certain extent. People haven't forgotten 'News at When', and this is just going to bring that memory to the fore once again.

IAC will probably have about 8m people watching so it is a good commercial decision as they'll be able to get higher ratings for the news after it. But providing it doesn't turn into 'News at When' I don't think it will be much of a problem if it is just done occasionally. I also think people have forgotten that the news was moved to 11pm every now and again 10 years ago.

You would think they'd put IACGMOOH on at 8-10pm, why do they feel the need to move the news? Silly move. NaT will become a farce once again at this rate

whilst I agree with you, Eastenders would be at 8 - so they wouldn't really be want to put it up against that. They could drop Corrie @ 8:30, but once again I don't think there'd wan't to do that. So it would start at 9 if they still kept Corrie there.

Actually Corrie and EastEnders look to be going head to head the day before, with Corrie at 8pm in Emmerdales usual slot and a previously announced hour-long episode of EastEnders, due to Children in Need the week before. No reason though why I'm a Celeb couldn't run 8.30-10pm, with Corrie either moved to Sunday or held back for another extra Wednesday episode.

Back on topic and I thought tonight's Evening bulletin was superb. Criticise all you like, but when it comes to stories like Afghanistan it's important emphasis is put on the casualties of war being people, not figures. First time too I think they've used the title sequence for just one story, which was very effective.

News shouldn't be about the people though, it should be about the facts. ITV News gets too wound up how people are feeling. They should report the news, then let people decide what emotions they should feel.

The facts are Guardsman Jimmy Major, Warrant Officer Darren Chant, Sergeant Matthew Telford, Corporal Steven Boote and Corporal Nicholas Webster-Smith died. Would you prefer they just inform us 5 soldiers died, and left it at that? Much more interesting to hear what their friends and family have to say about it, rather than the empty condolences of a few politicians and senior military figures who've never met them.

Traditionally I guess news is very "top-down". As I said before I don't think it's a s big a change as some people are making out, but I think ITV are right to consider the approach of the story beginning with the people on the street, rather than the people in power.

Finding out how people are feeling and what it means to the viewer creates a far more 'human' approach to the news.

It always strikes me as odd that so many people on this forum criticise ITV News for being too "dumbed down" and human interest orientated when there is so little discussion here about Channel 4 News, which is arguably the most serious and intelligent news programme on television. If everyone is so desperate for proper news, why does C4 News hardly get a look-in?

Really - I though there was some unwritten rule that that means Corrie & Eastenders don't go up against eachother??
I think 8.30-10pm would be a sensible idea - like I've previosuly said, people don't mind it for england matchs ect. but you don't really wan't to be moving it about for I'm a Celeb . Will see nearer the time when the schedules are final.

Although I agree with you about tonights EN being good - am I alone in saying that it took up a bit too much time?? IMO it did, not sure what others think??

It did take up too much time I agree, but I wouldn't have dropped any of those stories - but perhaps holding back one of them for News at Ten wouldn't have been a bad idea.

yeah they were all newsworthy, but like you say mabye they should have kept one NAT exclusive.

Funny how the CA is still calling it the "New look News at Ten" - it it'll be mid December and there'll still be calling "new look"! Laughing

Also , first time Breaking News strap has been used!
