The reason it can't be fixed is due to the fact the desk reflects the green at certain angles, and then blends in with the squares on the desk. It's an inherent design fault.

That's not actually the reason!

I was of the understanding it's because the way the Viz 3D set system tracks real objects to calculate the location of the fake ones. It struggles to track correctly with closer angles because of the target lighting being too close together for it to tell a difference.

Anyone else noticed tonight's "ITV News at Ten" is at 11pm? Brings back memories of 'News at When?'.

They should keep the virtual reality set - all it takes is a good virtual set design for it to look nice. If they ground the set in reality (looking out to a newsroom/skyline), yet add futuristic/"impossible" elements (a set suspended over the newsroom, or having glass screens, for example), they can create a good-looking set.

What doesn't help them is their propensity for using close-ups that make the background blurry and indistinct. If they made the backdrop more detailed, or reduced the usage of such shots, it would be much better.

By "blurry and indistinct", do you mean the way a real set would look given the depth of field of the lens? And you want to reduce the use of close-ups in a news programme?

In terms of close-ups, I mean shots that are slightly further out - possibly showing some of the desk as well as the presenter's body, as opposed to head and shoulders.

In terms of the background, when I say blurry, I mean pixellated and lacking detail; when I say indistinct, I mean the way the maps in the background look like indecipherable blobs.

If the VR could blur realistically during close-up, it would be better, and less jarring.

It is billed as ITV News at Ten, even though it is on at 11.

It was clearly a mistake. The 11pm news was a fifteen-minute bulletin that carried the format and structure of a typical bank holiday ITV bulletin. Errors in listings for the news have happened umpteen times in the past on bank holidays or weekends. Hardly worth singling this one out..!

Then I apologise. Wink

Online TV listings simply have "ITV News & Weather".

Indeed, if the news was at 10 on Christmas Day some listings would call it the 'ITV News at Ten'

Some people in another thread were going on about Fiona Armstrong presenting the 'BBC News at One' yesterday, even though it was nothing of the sort.

And technically speaking "ITV News at Ten" was axed a couple of years back in favour of an "ITV News" bulletin at 10pm.

It was "News at Ten" that was axed in favour of "ITV News... at Ten", was it not? Laughing
