Wow I was just watching the ITV News at Ten 5 minutes ago from the live player online. Thought there was something wrong with my computer or something until someone else mentioned the green screen fail! I feel sorry for the director of News at Ten who had to just stop moving the camera.
Very interesting, never seen it happen before. The background seemed to blur when movement occurred from the camera end too. Wonder what caused it?
I'm guessing it was just the Viz engines playing up.
The studio is generated by several Viz machines and on occasions they crash out, just like any ordinary PC! The set is divided up into sections and each part is allocated a Viz engine, so by spreading it across several machines means whilst one part may crash, the other parts can still be used. It can usually be 'covered up' by using the other available camera shots whilst the faulty machine is rebooted. I guess it's just unfortunate timing that it had decided to go crazy on the final shot where the whole set can be seen!
