Time keepers news at ten starting at ten on the dot!

They used to do that after the relaunch of NaT in 2008.

Yes, ITV's News at Ten does seem to just be that little bit better than the BBC's, probably owing to the fact it's a double-headed show nowadays. All they need to do is get the content a bit better, and reintroduce that powerful News at Ten brand. Too bad the BBC ripped it off them with 'BBC News at Ten'.

It's hardly a rip off, it's the BBC News which just happens to be on at ten. Other than that it is just another news bulletin that is produced by bbC news

There's just something not quite right about the term "BBC News at Ten"! I notice a lot of people (on Twitter for example) refer to something they saw on "News at Ten", only for me to realise they were watching BBC1 and not ITV1. Yet so many people say "ITV News" when they refer to something they've seen on the 10pm bulletin and not "News at Ten"... odd. Anyway, the BBC's bulletin will always be the "Ten O'Clock News" to me, just as ITV's 10pm programme will always be "News at Ten".

Enough of my rambling!

I agree, nobody ever says 'News at Six' in conversation do they.

Totally agree.

Well, it was all borne out of standard branding agency gwabble that the phrase "BBC NEWS" had to be inserted as one or else people wouldn't be able to comprehend that the "News" on their "BBC" service of choosing was being provided by the one and only BBC News.

And lo, the concise, well known but all too often BBC-less News 24 became BBC News ... or is it the BBC News Channel ... or perhaps the News Channel... whatever that is.

Yes that's what I meant. The BBC moving their main bulletin to ten o'clock was purely because of ITV's stupid decision to move the news to 11 o'clock and I really doubt they didn't sincerely regret making that decision one second after the BBC announced they were moving the nine o'clock news.

But what I'm saying is the ten o'clock news bulletin on the BBC is now called 'BBC News at Ten' - they've basically just ripped off the ITN News at Ten name, and used it for other bulletins. It should be Ten O'Clock News, Six O'Clock News, One O'Clock News etcetra.

No chance - having their bulletins titled like that means that viewers will forget that the "Ten O'Clock News" is produced by the BBC. Rolling Eyes

Very interesting.

I had no idea that's why they changed their bulletin names, but it actually makes sense if the intention was to ensure the phrase 'BBC News' was not broken up by BBC Six O'clock News .

Maybe that's also why the ITV bulletins stopped being ITV Lunchtime News and ITV Evening News and became simply ITV News and ITV News at Six Thirty etc (to reinforce the ITV News brand).

As ITV is to get a brand refresh later in the year, will this have an impact on the ITV News. If ITV scrap the yellow look then the current ITV News branded look would be out of date.

It's not compulsory for the news to be the same colour scheme as ITV1, in fact at most points in the past it wasn't.

That's assuming they ditch the yellow logo of course.
