Nice to see Emma Murphy tonight in a much less serious role, first time I have ever seen her smile!

I don't understand why itv always have the new year programme finish about 00:03 so we miss most of the fireworks, Would it really matter pushing the review of the year back to 00:10 or even 00:15 so we get to see more of the fireworks and celebrations?

ITV don't have the rights to broadcast the full firework display. That's why its only on until 00:03.

That's daft. Surely it's a public event?

A nice New Year start to ITV News at five to six morning. The Morning News had nice pictures of the fireworks in the studio and used different camera angles too. There was also a flash of fireworks between the studio and ITN caption thing at the end. I've just tried to look again online but the programme is not there.

Nope it is a paid for broadcast that the BBC have. That's also why on Sky and ITV they don't have the music played to the time of the fireworks like BBC One.

You would think something like this would be shown on all channels that wish to show it. Do the BBC think they are so good they can show fireworks better than other channels? I just think this is ridiculous.

It is about time the BBC were told they can no longer have some of these rights and let itv have a go as itv are much better in my opinion and itv do not gloat about their coverage either.

ITV probably don't want the rights. Everyone knows that everyone will tune into BBC One regardless no matter how much promotion they drum up.

Even more stupid in my opinion is the fact that Sky News Radio (formally IRN) who provide the news to many commercial radio stations across the country, cannot broadcast the chimes of Big Ben as they are 'protected from broadcast without the rights'. Rolling Eyes

Tonights news at Ten started earlier than scheduled at 22:09 instead of 22:10, As mentioned earlier in this thread its usually 2 minutes late when its due to start at 22:00, its not like ITV to be early

It looks like Alastair Stewart is taking a well earned break
