Tell me about it. He has an awful, terribly cringeworthy reporting style.

As for the look of ITV News - yes, it is consistent... but looks terrible. And that London-centric argument...! You can't think up a more ridiculous reason for changing than that. Creating something along the lines of News at Ten would have been perfect though, Big Ben or not. I really wouldn't care that much about the current branding if only the editorial style hadn't returned to that tabloidy 2006/7 era.

Whenever they show signs of improvement they always backtrack and return to that shocking, catastrophic and dismal era.

Generally I would agree with you, but your bias is quite obvious, Nicky.

I was amazed by the order of the London-centric agenda of BBC News the other day:
    Person stabbed in LONDON
    Old Man leaves hospital
    Person Shot in SALFORD

I found that on the same day ITV News' lead story was the events in Syria.

I wonder which organisation was London-centric?

LOL. OK. I get it now. Sorry.

If you're in the vicinity of ITN, I suggest you go in and give them a piece of *our* mind!

Stuart, I don't think Nicky meant an editorial London centricity. It was said by ITV in 2009 that they were getting rid of the obvious Big Ben branding and London skyline backdrop because it was too London-centric for viewers elsewhere in the UK. The general consensus around these parts was that nobody had a problem with it at all.

The biggest mistake ITV ever made was having the landscape look across all bulletins for a few months as a stop gap ahead of the yellow relaunch. If they hadn't done that I think this revamp would have been received much more favourably in comparison to the old teal look.

I've no issue with the look at all (apart from the regional version) - I think it's the best since 2004 myself. The London backdrop set was brilliant, but the rest of the "look" around it a bit of a mess really, except for News at Ten.

However ITV News has undoubtedly lost ground over the last few years and even the once competitive Evening News doesn't seem to have the punch it once did. Now I think that's more down to content than style, but they need to find some credibility again - and a fresh start usually needs a new look.

With only hours to go, that could well be the post of the year! Nicely put.

Thank you Robert, that is exactly what I was referring to. I've no idea what my supposed "bias" is..!

I can't help but think you are right about the "stopgap" approach. The landscape looked terrible on the other bulletins, particularly the "daytime" version used on the Lunchtime News. Even little touches like that News at Ten glass screen looked poorly redrawn for the other programmes... it is a shame they couldn't construct an entirely new look for all programmes based on the good points of NAT, even without the London landscape - though I must admit it looked amazing on that programme. I think the outcry, if one could call it that, was getting rid of NAT after only a few months. The teal look was an unpleasant mismatch by the end and needed to go, but NAT had a beautifully consistent look.

But editorially, the entire operation needs a vital relaunch - and soon...

Well, you were winning, Brekkie, until BBCNicky posted just before you now, with another example of common sense.

I'll need to toss a coin.

I don't understand why itv always have the new year programme finish about 00:03 so we miss most of the fireworks, Would it really matter pushing the review of the year back to 00:10 or even 00:15 so we get to see more of the fireworks and celebrations?

ITV don't have the rights to broadcast the full firework display. That's why its only on until 00:03.

Oh right thanks for that James, Could they not just show celebrations from their own cameras around the country for a few minutes?
