It was going to be Lucy but he was brought in for the News of the World story.

I'm sure Lucy Meacock would have been more than able to do the ITV News at 10 as planned, or as Mark Austin even suggested to her on twitter, jointly present it

In some ways I understand how for big news, the big name presenters are wanted, but a kick in the teeth to perfectly competent presenters who get sidelined in the process. Though credit to ITV for slightly extending the News at 10 to around 20 minutes tonight

Interesting that ITV News is going out live online with the Committee Hearings coverage.

Also when you load up the live stream on the ITV website it is listed as ITV 5. Smile

"ITV 5" is often used for extra sports coverage.

Wasn't sure if it would be anchored by both Alastair and Julie from Westminster, apart from really major stories like elections etc it's normally only one on location and one in the studio.

I know - as I posted just now in the News International thread, they're both at Westminster, which seems a bit pointless. The Murdoch story isn't taking up the whole of tonight's 6:30 news, so having one at Westminster and one in the studio covering the other news would be a better situation.

Nice night-time shot of the Houses of Parliament ending News at Ten earlier tonight.

Sad how it's become the programme to "spot the Big Ben". Laughing

Thought it was rather weird on the Evening News tonight.

Nina was presenting from Al's seat and he was on the other side.

First time ive ever saw him present from that side.

Talking of Nina, has she got the cold or something? Saw the lunchtime news today, and it sounded like she was talking through her nose.

Was a tad annoying to say the least.

Alastair always sits on that side because he is slightly deaf in one ear - meaning on the other side he wouldn't hear his co-presenter very well (or possibly at all) so it's fair to presume Nina has something up with her (probably from the cold someone mentioned above)
