I think it may have just been a late weekend bulletin or two. One of those silly 11.30pm/11.45pm bulletins...

When the ITV News channel existed was GMTV Simulcast on the channel or did a breakfast show of its own air?

They did their own thing - in fact Scott Chisholm (ex Sky News/Channel 5 News) joined a few weeks before the channel's closure to present the breakfast show - only for the closure to be announced a week later.

They didn't begin till 7am though - they replaced the 5.30 edition of the Morning News in the 6am hour.

Correct, the only time they ever simulcasted GMTV on the ITVNC was during the early days of the Iraq war, but as it went on they got dropped, I do recall a GMTV simulcast ending at about 7.30am or so when GMTV went onto the fluffier stuff. Remember when GMTV blocked the ITVNC during 6 and 9.25am on DTT? That was pathetic.

Am I the only one who refuses to watch ITV News when James Mates is presenting? I cannot stand the man and I wish they wouldn't let him into the studio.

I wouldn't go as far as refusing to watch but I would agree there are far better presenters.

I think he's an excellent presenter and it's refreshing to see someone other than MA and AS on for a full week.

I agree. I think he's got a certain way about him. His voice and delivery are excellent too.

He's not exactly the most dynamic of anchors, but he makes a change from the pompousity of Alastair Stewart.
