Why the praise for Geraint's newscasting skills...?

He is definitely a top reporter, but always seems uneasy and uncomfortable when reading the news - and he is certainly not an example of a "young talent" in that respect. I think ITN realised this too, hence his disappearance from relief presenting (until now). I'd rather he stuck to what he is genuinely talented at - his reporting.

Totally agree.

Rachel McTavish was always a favourite of mine when she did the Morning News, now we have the pleasure of having her back at STV.

I think today is Geraint's first time reading the news since the 2009 Revamp???

Nope, he did a few bulletins in late-2009 and early 2010.

Great to see him back in the studio Exclamation I don't know why they don't use him as much as they used to. He's an excellent newscaster and one of the few young talents ITV have surley they could entrust him with a relief presenter role with News at 10 he's done every other national and anchored it on location 'in the big freeze.'

He used to be on as much as Mark when he was Deputy on the then Evening News.

Arguably he has presented News at Ten during the Cumbrian floods where he anchored both the news at 6.30 and at 10 with Julie Etchingham in the studio.

Maybe its not about trusting him to do it, maybe he just doesn't want to do it!

I doubt if you're a Journalist and the boss offers the chance to present the networks flagship and most prestigious bulletin that you would turn it down. It's ever since Mark left the 6:30 and they seem to have adopted this style of using the 4 main presenters across the two bulletins so in practice Mary presents NAT at least 1 night per week and each bulletin only has its regular presenting team 3 nights a week at most.

Does anyone know if ITV News will get a rebrand in the next couple of years? This current branding is the worst they've ever had and I can't wait to see the back of it

At the very least they tweak it every 2 years. The current look has been on air since November 2009 so there will probably be some changes in the next year or so.

The current branding is horrible and they really need to ditch the virtual studio idea, it just looks dated and they've had different variations of it since 2004. They could have a really classy and nice looking black and yellow set if it was real.

If Sky News is put up for sale, could ITN buy Sky News to create an ITV News Channel?

Don't expect the regions to change sets, considering London and Central's sets went in in 2004, you'd think they'd replace them.

I really wish they'd make NaT a standalone programme again with its own titles, music and set. I loved the look of NaT when it returned in 2008

Why on earth would they do that? ITN tried launching it's own news channel - which made no money. ITV News then bought them out - and closed it down because it made no money. Sky New has run at a loss for twenty years.

ITN couldn't afford it - and if they could why would they buy a loss-making organisation when they've already been burnt when it come to 24-hour news?

The idea's pure fantasy.

Would be very different if ITN had produced the news for Sky News as had originally been planned back in the eighties.
