If I recall correctly, it's impossible (since the incident a few years back where the NAT 2008 closing theme was played simultaneously with the then current ITV News closing theme) for the wrong version of the closing theme to be played on the wrong programme. News at Ten has its own 'page' on SpotOn (the music playout system) and only the NAT closes are available on there. So, I think you must have been imagining things.

I'm sure I wasn't imagining things - honest! Laughing

Is SpotOn linked with the playout of the ITN caption in anyway? As it seemed a bit strange that it was the News At Ten ITN caption ( had RTS... on it) Would it not be possible that the News At Ten theme/caption were played out instead?

Maybe they just had an extra 10 seconds to fill and nothing to fill it with, took the NAT closing theme but accidentally took the end card too. I've heard it on the 6.30pm news in the past but very infrequently.

To clarify the ITV News at Ten extended theme tune was not played last week, all that was played was the build up to the shorter close (the last segment of the theme tune) as there was still time to kill. The NaT theme tine has a build up and a longer close (the main and last bit of theme tune).

Fair enough - just with the incorrect NAT ITN caption played out, thought it could be. No big deal. Thanks for clarifying.

No. SpotOn is purely an audio device totally independent of any visuals.

ITV Evening News presented tonight by James Mates and Daisy McAndrew. Definitely scraping the barrel, aren't they!

Must be a last minute thing - Daisy presented the Lunchtime News and I'm sure she said that Mary Nightingale would be presenting with James Mates at 6:30pm.

Ah - it did seem an unusual choice. Here's a couple of caps anyway:

Daisy did an OK job, shes fine when it comes down to stories but she struggled her way through 1.30pm bulletin with the live interviews, she can't handle those.

Agree about the stories versus lives, but in fairness to her, she doesn’t present all that often, and I think still gets a bit distracted between talkback from the gallery and responses from the interviewee. But I think she’s got a great style of delivery – her voice is clear, with a nice tone and crisp pronunciation. She’s great when they interview her in the studio.

I do like her delivery, she doesn't have the "the world is going to end" tone that the rest of the ITV News presenters have, but as a main presenter I think she'd be better suited to something lighter like Daybreak or Five News.

I do like her a lot, she comes across very well during interviews and when she does the This Morning paper review from time to time.
