Andrea Benfield presenting tonight much better presenter choice this week, from what I briefly have seen.

She is alright but I find her somewhat "cold" as a presenter - perhaps a bit too professional and rehearsed with it.

Plus as a side note, for one or two of you, this might be great news. Laughing

Deborah Turness will remain editor of ITV network news and will also oversee ITV's national and international coverage, provided by ITN, working closely with Jonathan Munro, deputy editor and director of newsgathering for ITV News.

How is that good news? Wink Laughing

Anybody else seen the new promo for ITV News at Ten, it shows various clips of presenters and reporters with the end cap like that used on promo's like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykRSEGjNPAg but has "RTS Programme of the Year below" the ITV News logo.

I've seen it twice today. It says at the end, next to the ITV News logo, that it is on 'Tonight at 10' - surely this is not true?

The ITV News is on at Ten tonight but only for 15mins so a lot will be crammed in and as its following DOI I suspect not on time either.

The new promo is meant to be for what we know as News at Ten - but of course ITN is bound by the generic branding; as such, it looks more like a promo for the ITV News service than their flagship weeknight programme. "ITV News every night at 10" sounds confusing to say the least.

Why couldn't they have put together a graphic (and voiceover) saying "ITV News at Ten"? Would have been less confusing and more clear!

Anyway, I think it's pretty well put together in terms of clips used - Haiti rescues, etc. - but I hate the audio waveform thing they keep putting in the background of these promos.

Talking of new promos, UTV have started airing two new ones for the ITV/UTV 'News Hour', starring Mark Austin and Paul Clark:

No bongs on this evening's evening bulletin.

Must have been a mistake. They were there on the 22:00 bulletin. Also noticed a promo for Wednesday's news special, with a voiceover from Alastair Stewart: "The Chancellor's Budget - An ITV News Special". Seemed slightly odd as there was no theme music or bed in the background, just Alastair's rather subdued v/o.

One thing though - why do various TV listings/EPGs always have the Budget special running from 12:20pm to 1:30pm, and then list "ITV News & Weather" from 1:30pm to 2:00pm? In my experience, the events onscreen have always been treated as one big, long programme between 12:20 and 2:00, with no divide at 1:30.

Also randomly came across this capture on Flickr earlier:

Why did they get rid of that graphic? Also haven't seen the "On Assignment" feature for probably over a year now.

I'd assume its more to do with if there is any other breaking news. With current events in Libya and Japan, there might be some form of divide at 1.30pm, or even an 'in other news' section at around 1.40pm.

Just out of interest, does anyone have a foto of what the ITN News studio looks like in the "green screen" format, without the imagery overlaid? I can't really conceptualize how it looks in bare form. (the desk in particular.)

Some very sad news on this, the 10th anniversary of TV Forum, but Johnny Pearson, the composer of The Awakening, the original News at Ten theme tune has died.
