Wonder how long it'll be before the "RTS News Programme of the Year" on the ITN endcap appears? Tomorrow?
Only a couple of hours left to find out...

Monkey's speech of the night at the Royal Television Society journalism awards on Wednesday in London was from Mark Austin after ITV's News at Ten won news programme of the year. He said News at Ten was a "brand that was unceremoniously and wrongly dumped... what's particularly satisfying is to do that head to head with the beast that is the BBC 10 [o'clock news] with all their resources". Sadly there were few BBC big beasts in the room to hear it. Had they got wind of the fact that the Beeb won just three awards, Monkey wonders?

And the endcap is back! Did have to laugh at Mary's joke " ... thats it from the award winning News At Ten"

Intresting ... well at least it shows that we are not alone in thinking it. Whatever we think about the look of the bulletins, sensationlist approach etc, on the dumping of the NAT brand at least, it seems Mark and the team agree.
Surely this must prove more than anything, to something I think may of us have thought anyway, that it's ITV not ITN that are responsible/wanted the changes.
Mark might not be referring to News at Ten branding being dumped, more News at Ten itself being dumped in 1999 and again in 2004. That's the impression I get anyway, he's hardly going to slate his own bulletin after winning an award.
On the topic of branding, instead of the car park branding, ITV would have been better tweaking the existing 2008-2009 look to bring it in line with the ITV branding.
Ooh, News at Ten tonight with Alastair Stewart and Sandy Gall... well, sort of! There'll be a report on Sandy's extensive charity work and his most recent honour tonight at ten (there was a brief 'coming up' clip showing Alastair and Sandy trawling the streets of London). Should be a good piece. Although I don't really remember Sandy on the news, I'm aware of him as one of ITV's best war correspondents and a top notch newscaster.

Am I the only person who still hates the current look and feel of ITV News? I'll never understand why they ditched this superb and unique identity for News at Ten

I've already had my say on it but looking at the video, if they insisted on a "brand realignment" they would have been better off cheapening that look by putting a different coloured tint over the backdrop (e.g. light yellow for LN, dark yellow for EN, black for NAT) and recolouring the graphics yellow. The the blue on the floor could be replaced with, you guessed it... yellow. It wouldn't have looked anywhere near as good, but it would have looked a million times better than it currently does. Alternatively they could have just recoloured the ITV1 logo blue and spent the money on better idents and presentation .
A further suggestion, perhaps not ideal now (but could be done), could have been to move out of ITN and into studio 7 at TLS (now occupied by Daybreak) where they could have retained the London backdrop and designed an ITV1-esque set around it.

How can I get to see that? The ITV News website doesn't allow us access from overseas.
Sandy Gall was the best newscaster who ever existed.
