Yes it is. See here for the closing music used on the other bulletins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ0BxFtz9Fk. Incidentally that's a nice closing shot - why do they never use it any more?

Perhaps it's because the 'sweeping shot' around the desk shows up some bad rendering on the CGI yellow squares. The one seen edge on appears to leap a few inches off the desk.

Would it be possible to put yellow lit panels on there instead - or would that not work with all the CGI?

Sally Biddulph presenting the bulletins for today and I have to say I do like her presenting style compared to that of Daisy McCandrew who just comes across as awkward.

Presumably yellow is too close to green in colour, and there would be similar problems to now at tight angles reflecting the green backdrop.

EDIT: Thanks for answering
Im sure something could be done to smooth that out then. Surprised they have left it. I would have assumed it would have been tweaks and altered.

Every new look is tweaked at least some time within the first six or so months - ITV has done it loads of times over the years. There have been no tweaks this time round, for some odd reason.

To be honest I don't rate either of them as decent newscasters... Daisy does come across as awkward while Sally is not even that experienced enough. Without intending to insult, she sounded positively soppy when reading out some stories on the late bulletin a few moments ago.

I really do praise them for sticking to their guns with this as so often a new look is slowly undone in the first few months of the life and ultimately the concept is lost.

That said though out of all the new looks TV news organisations have had over recent years, this was probably the one most in need of a few relatively simple tweaks.

I'm not sure why this occurred but maybe somebody else knows...? Seeing as the others kept their titles, I would (lazily) guess that this was done to include more coverage of the news itself by cutting out those valuable seconds - remember the 5:40pm news only ran for just less than 20 minutes back then (but this theory is most likely wrong, I'm not sure how much difference a few seconds would make!!)

That may well be the reason. The 5:40 news didn't actually last more much more than 15 minutes.

IIRC it was moved from 5:45 when ITV started doing a national weather forecast, which started at around 5:57 and was before the main regional news programmes which started at 6pm.

I'm sure there were also adverts and/or trailers within the 5:55 to 6pm gap, as well as the national weather.

I quite like this often forgotten music used for ITN bulletins in the early 90s

It's really odd how they used to just talk allover the top of the music in these weekend bulletins.

I love seeing these old news bulletins - there's something very nostalgic about it. Seeing reporters you'd forgotten all about (Jo Andrews, Kevin Dunn) or one's you've never heard of (Glyn Mathias, Geoffrey Archer). Fascinating stuff - thanks for uploading them (or whatever it's called).

Even Daybreak has been tweaked and changed in 6months!

Anyone catch the "coming up at 6:30" preview ( during the local news as always). Instead of being sat at the desk, Alastair was standing next to the desk, in front of the right hand screen. Don't think there've done this before. I only say cause I think they should try it out on the opening of the news - certainly looked a lot better than about 20m away! Laughing
