Why are there so many people from Central working on ITV national news this weekend? Gareth Owen and Mark Gough have been reporting both days and Matt Teale presented the lunchtime national bulletin and London Tonight earlier today. It wouldn't surprise me if Steve Clamp turns up on the night shift later. Are they all desperate to leave Central, I wonder?

There is a perfectly good rota thread for this however Matt Teale has not been on Central since he departed to setanta sports and has alternated on Weekend London Tonight and the Lunchtime national programme since Donal McIntyre joined London Tonight. Gareth Owen and Mark Gough regularly file reports for ITV News and it may be something to do with the fact Two Regions were turned in to one and with Salma Siraj, Faye Barker , Alex Forrest and Romilly Weeks all on Leave there is need for extra reporting strength and to my belief Steve is still sports correspondent In the region.
Could someone please answer my question Is the current ITV News set in Studio 5 which used to be used by Setanta sports news.

I believe ITV News is still in the 'Theatre of News' studio (Studio 2?), but with the desk and cameras rotated 45 degrees to the left or something to that effect.
I agree... it feels a bit dull, samey and (dare I say it) a little tacky. Even slightly tweaking the backdrop would be great.
On the subject of presentation has anyone else noticed the slow zoom into the presenter that has been in use on News at Ten over the last couple of weeks? (After the headline sequence.) Bit random, but I think speeding it up would be an improvement. The prolonged slow zoom looks as if they're trying to dramatise everything further.
Also - and I'm in danger of sounding like a broken record - but I really don't like how they're distancing themselves from the strong "News at Ten" brand... a strong brand could even be built around "ITV News at Ten" but the focus is too much on "ITV News". I know they want to build up as strong a brand as "BBC News", but with the current (seemingly unpopular) slant being put on stories, it doesn't make for credible viewing! Even dampening down the human interest would be a bloody good change for the better.

I think ITV News is due a refresh (read: NOT a full blown revamp) now.
A few tweaks here and there would be welcomed now.

Firstly Nicky many thanks for answering my question the reason I asked is the look seems very similar to me of that used by setanta sports news but many thanks for that.
As for your view on the distancing themselves from the News at Ten brand I agree with you I remember when the programme revived in 2008 I thought it was excellent even better might I say than its BBC rival , It had great exclusives such as the first show and the subject of Princess Diana's death and went on to have excellent coverage of the US Elections but recently especially after the revamp it has been too close to the rest of ITV News little things I used to like such as the And Finally graphic and at the end of the report the correspondent saying News at 10 rather than ITV News. I Also liked the fact News at 10 had a different look to every other programme across ITV's Output (apart from the Late News). Now it's all Gimmicks of late the 'peoples panel' just one example. Don t get me wrong I like the current look however they need to look at content.
In the defence of ITV News One edition of ITV News at 10 I watched this week seemed to be a lot better than of recent and the Prince William interview coverage was also great. Another little thing on the subject of presentation the background behind James seemed to have gone lighter shades of yellow and grey.

ITV News is still in studio 2 (originally the 'Theatre of News') and has never been in studio 5. Desk and cameras are not rotated 45 degrees. It's as it's always been.
Er, it's not "random". It's a standard introductory device used on television the world over.
Why should ITV News "looking like Setanta Sports News" mean that they're in the same studio? ITV News is almost entirely virtual and Setanta was a real set!

Well, if so, why have you just started using it...? A still shot sufficed for many years on ITV News. Bit boring, but it is a news programme...

It's not mandatory! It's just a creative device. You can use it, or not. Not a big deal!

Please don't think I'm trying to start an argument! I was just saying that I preferred the intro as it was, without the creativity. Of course, I'm nothing but a lowly viewer...

I do like the effects used for the national weather map on this video:

Hopefully so. I do think at the time they were right to keep it simple in response to the reaction to the BBC graphics - but ITV need to catch up now and start using something similar to the BBC, as C4 now do.
It's nice to see them trying, but the ITV weather graphics really are appallingly bad - I'm sure I heard a rumour of new weather graphics on here a while ago, let's hope it's a new system rather than another dress-up of the current one.
