In terms of journalism, I think the rocky patches have been 2006-2008 and 2009-present. There was a brief recovery when News at Ten was relaunched but that soon subsided again. Looking back, ITV News was actually pretty good as late as 2005, until Turness really got stuck in with the 2006 rebrand. That's when it all went downhill, in my opinion. Many people say it became trashy in 1999 when the ITN branding was dropped. True, it slipped a little then but it was, in my opinion, still a credible news service, and that article supports it. As far as I'm concerned, the quicker they get rid of Turness, the better. It's not ITN's fault. ITV is ITN's client and they just have to do as they are told. If they don't, they could lost the contract. The proof of this is ITN's involvement in Channel 4 News, which remains top notch. ITN can provide a heavyweight news broadcast when they're given the opportunity. It's the suits at ITV that are at fault.

Recently ITV News has become increasingly worse to watch and the gimmacks , send a presenter to the opening of a handbag and general aspects is meaning I am finding myself watching BBC News more oftern (like I used to). not only that but the rellay big events there coverage is not that good the Papal visit BBC News and Sky news coverage was heaps and bounds ahead of ITVs , as was the election night .

The Quality of reports is also lacking all this dramatic coverage of any top story is not needed and ive had enough and i am switching fulltime to BBC .

Also the weather forecasts are miles behind BBC.

Will Daisy McAndrew be Romillys cover?
Also the lunchtime news rota seems to be very odd, this week al is on 4 times, james is on once. Last week there was a random mix of James, Nina and Al.

I hesitate to get involved here, but you're not factually correct there. ITV's election night results coverage was way ahead of the BBC and Sky News.

I agree. I think ITN did a commendable job of ITV's election coverage, given their minuscule budget and resources. I actually found ITV to be much more watchable than the BBC. In a way, the scale of the BBC's programme was its downfall. There was just too much going on for my liking.

I would complete agree with this. How are people not more annoyed with the extravagance of the BBC election night coverage? It was completely over the top. They had so many presenters they didn't know what to do with them. Their US election coverage was ridiculous as well.

I found BBC's election night fascnating and David Dimbleby did a commendable job and in what sense were there two many presenters Fiona- news , Emily - Seat Guide , Jeremy - intervactive and mr paxman covered the big name interviews there was need for each itv has vitualy the same amount of presenters and sky had even more. Also its down to itv to produce a good budget its like saying Channel M has better news than Daybreak because it did good with its budget.

Simmons, who takes up his new role tomorrow, is set to replace Angus Walker who is due to take up his first his first foreign role as ITV News’ new China correspondent.

He will be replaced as crime correspondent in two weeks time by Rohit Kachroo who is currently covering stories in the Midlands for ITV News.

“He’s been across all the main crime stories in recent years and already has fantastic contacts to develop exclusive lines as UK editor.

“Rohit’s promotion is also thoroughly deserved on the back of some superb reporting and investigations, and Emily’s six-month attachment shows our commitment to developing talent within ITN.”

Simmons joined ITN – which produces the ITV News - in 2004 and has held numerous roles including London life correspondent at London Tonight and general reporter at ITV News.

He began his career in radio and then as a news desk assistant at ITV News going on to work on the planning desk before becoming a freelance reporter.

As expected really! Pretty good choice IMO.

I'm not a fan of Keir or Rohit so it makes no odds to me... but they're better than some. I saw Emily Morgan reporting on the Lunchtime News over the summer and was pretty impressed by her reporting style - hopefully she'll make a great addition to the reporting team.
