Why? Surely the news is what happens in London, not Rome?

Well from this I posted in The Pope's Visit Thread I think NAT is only on Wednesday - perhaps she's their earlier fo Tonight programme and/or interviews for Wednesday's NAT?

Quote:
ITV1 is to air a Tonight special edition covering Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Britain but, unlike BBC1, will not be changing its schedule to air live coverage of the papal trip.

Julie Etchingham has been investigating what kind of reception the Pope will receive when he arrives, for Tonight: Keeping the Faith?, which will air on the first day of the papal visit, Thursday 16 September.

Tonight has also commissioned a nationwide poll to reveal “what impact abuse allegations have had on the reputation of the Catholic church and the Pope”.

ITV news provider ITN will be covering the papal visit in a number of ways but unlike the BBC which is planning around 12 and a half hours of live network television coverage on BBC1 and BBC2, will leave most of its coverage to its news bulletins.

Etchingham will kick off proceedings by sub-anchoring ITV News at Ten from Rome on 15 September as the Pope leaves Italy.

Some of ITV News’s most experienced correspondents will then be covering the visit for the bulletins – including, according to ITV, “the reception among the UK Catholic community at various events, the context of the Catholic church abuse scandals, and the security operation in place to ensure the visit goes smoothly”.

New ITV breakfast show Daybreak will also air coverage of the visit.

ITV News is also undertaking numerous pooled filming obligations with other broadcasters to cover live events during the visit.

Just looking on TV Newsroom reminded me that we haven't heard anything on who's the new UK editor.
Anyone heard anthing more about who it will be?

Normally I'm not a fan of newscasters flying out to say something they could easily say in London, but it is good to see Julie Etchingham reporting from Rome this evening. Hopefully in the coming days she'll continue to report rather than regurgitate what Mark or whoever in the studio has just said, which is what usually happens at times like this.

And was that a sneaky "News at Ten" reference I heard from Penny Marshall earlier on? Laughing

EDIT
During a random web trawl, I found this piece from the website of Kojo Boateng (the ITN design director):
Quote:
He worked with Bruce Dunlop Associates on their rebrand of ITV News which won two Gold Awards at Promax/BDA.

...what?! How the hell can the current, extremely tacky branding be considered for any form of award? I can only assume that "Promax/BDA" is closely tied with the BDA that organised the November rebrand, which smacks of the usual self-indulgence. I can't for the life of me understand why the current look is so poor: Boateng's design work for News at Ten was brilliant, exceptional even.

Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about with the current ITV News look. I actually quite like it. Yes, the old London skyline was nice and it's a shame they had to get rid of it, only for it to suddenly appear again on Daybreak. However, on the whole I think the current scheme is bright, colourful, attention-grabbing and quite clean and fresh. I think the graphics are a heck of a lot better than the mish-mash we had between 2006 and 2009. At least it all looks clean and consistent. I also think the music is a vast improvement on the 2004-2009 themes, which sounded rather cheap and dated very quickly.

The robot and Finally story did make me laugh tonight and Marks reaction! Laughing

Also liking the fact there've had Penny Marshall on both Tonight and yesterday - her reports are always really good. A shame she'd not on more or given one of the editors job. UK editor?

She's one of the best, no question. If she was full-time I guess that might be a possibility. Instead it's going to be Keir SImmons....'nuf said.

Well I think she is one of the "old school" people at ITV News/NAT".

It might be down to her not wanting a more full time job etc, but she should have got one of the higher up jobs IMO. If Kier does get the UK editor job ( which seems quite likely) then that would be alright - I quite like Kier.

Anyone notice that on the ITV News @ 6:30 - the voiceover was ".... Mary Nightingale & Julie Etchingham .... In Rome." But the "Rome" bit wasn't that clear and sounded slightly different? Don't think there've done that before?

I've said before I'm suprised they hadn't got location names before i.e recorded major cities/places for places they are likely to be on loction at. Made a nice change.

I expect it was on NAT again tonight ,but not sure.
