Interesting way to report on the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain - very similar to the Mission to the Moon series with John Suchet from last year.

Didn't catch NAT tonight , but I think last night I heard in the background about it - their showing a news report from then aren't they?

They aren't replaying the newsreel reports from the time, but instead are using original footage with new reporter commentary to make it seem like a current event. In James Mates' words - "How the ITV News at Ten might have reported events 70 years ago". It's exactly like Mission to the Moon, but it is a running feature within the programme over the next week or so rather than a separate series.

I don't think it has much relevance to a news programme to be honest.

No objections when it was a separate entity but not as part of a regular bulletin.

oh ok , I did know it was in the same programme as did hear Julie say something along the lines of "On tomorrows NAT" , last night.

Without seeing it yet I cant really say that much about it, but from the sounds of it I sort of know what you mean. Seems like it isn't really "news" I suppose ther cant really have a seperate programme for it as there only having like 1 stry a night, but mabye it would be more appropriate as an "& Finally" as we all know there not really news.

News programmes frequently mark anniversaries: D-Day, VE Day etc, and this just seems like a slightly different and quite interesting way of doing it. It only took up a minute and a half or so. Well done them for trying something a little unusual. I saw last night's and thought it was interesting.

These "features" should be kept separate from a "news" bulletin and put on its own slot or magazine show. It's The same when ITV News leads with their exclusive interviews when its not even major news. Just an excuse to reduce the amount of proper newsworthy material.

Also, Special investigations have no place on a news bulletin. That is just the media company setting their own news agenda.

I suppose there dammed if they do, dammed if they don't.

I suppose ITV don't have there own "newsnight" type show to put a special investiagation and to be fair they don't do it that often.

Plus all the news providers are guilty of leading with exclusive interviews. Of course if there've got an exclusive interview with someone quite big, their going to be showing if off.

Its okay if their exclusive interview is part of a news item of the day, but not when its compltley random. Special investigations shouldn't take lead stories, which ITV News are guilty of.

Its like ITV News are setting the news agenda, when they should be letting the actual news of the day drive the agenda. I think we are at a stage in this country where opinionated news is in a subliminal form. ITV News are most guilty of this.

I suppose a lot of people are intrested in these interviews. I do agree that they mabye shouldn't take the lead story . But there not always random. Also, say fro an example a exclusive chat with the PM - it might not be news as such, but its still intresting. The only real recent random one I can think of is the 1st day NAT relaunced - the lead story being Princess Diana's supposed lover interview. But I think that was just for some publicity for the launch, plus to have a guarenteed big lead story.

I suppose with NAT they take a slightly more indepth approach compared to the 6:30 and why there've proberly the worse offenders because BBC have Newsnight to put them stories on, ITV don't. So they make NAT a bit like news/newsnight.

Sian Jones presented the ITV Morning News this morning. They must be short staffed! lol
There was a bit of issue with the Voice Over as there was meant to be one but it didn't play causing a few seconds of silence.

If the decision for Sian Jones to present was last minute, that explains the lack of a voiceover. There's no longer a sound mixer on the Morning News (it's done by remote fader) so whoever was sound mixing ITV News the night before selects the correct voiceover for the 05:30 programme. Obviously, if they were planning for someone else to present the programme, they would have selected their voiceover last night. Incidentally, there is no voiceover for Sian Jones in the current batch. Normally, they would play the generic voiceover in such circumstances. Of course, this is just speculation and I could be completely wrong.

Alexandra Hill is pregnant so we could be seeing a bit more of Sian.
And I thought we were going to have a bit of an extended close just then due to Lucy's sound not working on her Live. Shame James had to cross back to her.
