Why to coincide with the new breakfast show? ITV News has nothing to do with Daybreak, except it may produce the news, but its expected to be ITN. I don't know why everyone is linking Daybreak to ITV News!

Errrmmm... You do realise ITN produce ITV News?

And one of the main reasons for axing GMTV is a desire for a stronger link with the ITV brand.

Erh, yes, but why does the launch of Daybreak give the reason for ITN to refresh its ITV service? ITN might produce the news for Daybreak, but it I doubt it will be branded ITV News?

Its like saying Emmerdale with get new titles because Loose Women is being revamped... stupid!

People need to stop linking this new programme to ITV News, its has no ITV logo and is purple for goodness sake.

They want to Tie it in with the ITV1 brand.
ITV News was realigned to work alongside the ITV 1 brand.
Therefore, they want it to work alongside the ITV 1 brand which is also the ITV News brand.

Well they revamped This Morning titles and Loose Women titles at the same time when they launched ITV Day years ago, because ITV wanted the programmes to use a similar colour scheme.

The point is - ITV will want a connection to the ITV News brand somewhere. I don't think that means going down the colour scheme route but at the least I'm expecting an ITV News logo to crop up somewhere.

It was a mere suggestion that if any changes are needed to the national ITV News, it would make sense to do it in September, a time when there will be other significant changes to ITV programming (the introduction of Daybreak is the most notable example). It's been pretty obvious since last year that ITV have a desire to link together all news and current affairs on ITV1 (not just the programmes produced by ITN):

1) ITV rebranded the on-screen look of the national ITV News because they felt it was too 'detached' from the channel branding, hence the new black, yellow and gold colours in use;

2) The regional news and political discussion programmes incorporated yellow into the proceedings;

3) The "Tonight" programme similarly rebranded from blue to colours used by ITV1;

3) And as indicated already, GMTV has been axed and replaced by an arguably more news-driven programme, with news updates that could effectively come under an "ITV News" banner.

Don't be silly by suggesting linking things like Daybreak and ITV News - both examples of ITV current affairs programming - together is the same as Loose Women being somehow connected to Emmerdale.

The opening report from Keir Simmons on the 6:30pm news was quite shoddy and could have been so much better. Same goes for the general language used in the programme. Quite a coup for ITN to get hold of these recordings but appalling how it's being presented. Hope it's better/more dignified for News at Ten. (Ha! We can all dream can't we...!)
