I thought it would be Katie and Al on the EN tonight.

Just incase anyone didn't see the LN today, Katie also had a good way of saying that she was leaving ( well there's no co presnter is there) - the was a story about Wimbeldon and becuause the Queen was there the players have to bow. So she said sometthing along the lines of "I'm also taking a bow today, it my last ever LN" and I'm not sure if it was just me but she'd seem to be humming along to the music and the end. Laughing

Yes, I noticed her french-horn imitation too. Smile

As for this evening's 6:30 news, I too don't expect much more than a very small tribute from Alastair to Katie at the end of the bulletin. I thought it was weird that Julie made an appearance on the 1:30 news to speak about the special Tonight programme: she wasn't saying anything particularly interesting, she was more or less relaying what we had already seen in the report and I assume she was there to say something to Katie about her departure. As it turns out, she wasn't!

I remember years ago when Katie started presenting the news on ITN, I always thought she just looked like a wee girl. No more than a teenager. And I considered it was the start of the dumbing down of ITN. (Old traditionalist that I am....................)

Now she is a graceful and distinguished lady who effortlessly delivers the news in a professional manner, and ITN will miss her. BBC are lucky. Will she actually read the news at BBC, or is she going to do something else?

I believe she is working at BBC Proms

I agree completely.
Unfortunately Katie won't be reading the news. She will, though, be leading the BBC's Proms coverage (edit: as mentioned by Macalolo above) and presenting other classical music and arts programmes for BBC television, as well as programmes on Radio 3. ('tis good for the BBC but I'll miss my almost daily fix of Katie.)

As for the Lunchtime News, I thought the way Katie said goodbye was lovely, and it's appropriate that her last bulletin is with Alastair, with whom she has spent so long presenting.
(I think she was talking/joking with the floor manager or people in the gallery at the end of the 1.30pm bulletin.)

I though Julie was their sort of for that reason too.
But they have done similar things before with both Mark and Julie (not together!) appearing on the LN or EN to promote a big interview on the Tonight programme or News at Ten.
I think most of the anchors get their fairly earliy before their bulletin anyway, for things like the briefing of the days news. To present a buletin at 10, you wouldn't think there'd have to get their THAT early though.

I agree does seem appropriate - I should think there've done it purposely.
Yeah I though she was sort of joking to the people in the gallery - If I saw right I think she said "goodbye" in a sort of joke to the rest of the crew.

Thought it was worth posting this from ITV NEWS Facebook account:

Quote:
For all Katie Derham fans out there - today's news at 6.30pm will be Katie's last programme for ITV News as she leaves to work on the BBC Proms. The newsroom here is sorry to see her go...

and as some people we asking who's the replacemnet going to be etc - the reply:
Just to let you all know - Nina Hossain will be the new permanent presenter of London Tonight and she'll carry on doing national programmes as well...
- so no deffinate answer then! Laughing
