I don't agree. He's not that good at all, with or without a second presenter. Reporting is definitely his forte. One example of a solid presenter in-the-making is Chris Ship, who is rare in that he is both a good reporter and a newscaster - and he's only been reading the news for a year or so.

To borrow a line from the recent election debates, 'I agree with Nick(y)'. Geraint appears slightly awkward in the studio and his delivery is quite stilted, especially when compared to his reporting which he seems more adept at. Whereas I think Chris is totally underrated. He seems much more able to take on both roles. Would love to see ITV News use him more.

ITV to incorporate social media into TV news bulletins - The Guardian

On the subject of the budget, there has been decent coverage so far, but they've rolled out the ticker again and I can't help but think it looks tacky - certainly not the ticker itself, but the ticker combined with the live strap and the other astons. It doesn't look right, for some reason - quite blocky and messy.
EDIT: and what's with the weirdly condensed "£X a year" text?

Indeed! There appear to be a number of reporters who make very good presenters, but most of whom cannot due to their heavy reporting responsibilities - I would class Bill Neely as being another very good newscaster.

Oh dear - they only have 22 minutes or so as it is without wasting time with the views of #pointlessnobody off twitter!

I do find these type of things quite annoying. There've had a few of these things in the last couple of years - uploaded, Recesssion Street ( or something like that).

I suposse it's not to bad on a slow news day. But within 6 months you never hear of them again!

Oh and a Happy Birthday to a certain Mr A Stewart! The budget falling on your birthday - what's the luck! Laughing

I thought we was going to get a bit of cookery on the ITV National Weather just then!

The promo was played on News at Ten. It seems very tacky, as befits the entire news service lately. Perhaps a change of editor is the thing ITV News needs the most.

Whilst I think the Budget coverage was quite good today - the graphics are quite tacky I.e the knives and sissors etc.

Totally agree. The graphics are usually okay (and sometimes quite good actually), but it all looked a bit tabloid today.

And what's with the ticker at the bottom? I think it would have looked better if they'd incorporated the ITV News logo into it (maybe on the left) and if they'd adopted the convention followed by the rolling news channels whereby the text runs in from the right of the 16:9 screen rather than keeping it entirely within the 4:3 safe area. As it was, it just looked really out of place on widescreen sets.

I think a better way of involving viewers would have been to use the ITV Live application they've been using on the World Cup - would have been interesting to have that on the budget coverage, and of course with that people can choose whether or not they want to see viewers views.

I pre-recorded the ITV News at 5:30am on Tuesday morning and noticed that the voiceover omitted the newscaster's name ("This is the ITV News... at 5:30" then the "bong") - I believe this is the first time the presenter hasn't been name-checked? Incidentally the presenter was Alexandra Hill, formerly Alex Hyndman. I can only assume they couldn't get a voiceover recorded in time - well, either that or they can't be bothered!

Well I suppose there'd have to get the voiceover just to record "Hill" ! Laughing
Plus it's only the 5:30, not as important as the other bulletins.
I've always thought they should have pre-recorded locations to like GMTV. i.e "This is the ITV News with Alastair Stewart in Cumbria and Mary Nightingale in London." Surely they could record 15/20 well known cities/locations that are likely to be used i.e Heathrow Airport.

Also thought it was worth noting on this thread too that Katie's last day was tonight on London Tonight! A few highlights of the different co host, but less of a "big send off"
