Alastair seemed a bit iffy during the promo at 9:45. He seemed to want to face away from the camera.

He seemed very uncomfortable with standing up. Do they normally stand up for the promos, as I don't often see them?

Yes they do. At the risk of getting bizarrely psycho-analytical, Alastair also seemed "iffy" at 6:30pm. Maybe he too is realising how terrible the current ITV focus on news stories is. Wink

Yes, an 'of day'. A day of feeling iffy.

Emma Murphy continuing to psychologically examine Derrick Bird on the main evening news. Also plenty of this in her report: "You expect to think that there'd be something normal about this man" etc etc, some such nonsense like that, spoken over newly obtained footage of Bird - footage obtained by ITV News in conjunction with a newspaper. Yes, a tabloid. "The People". Rolling Eyes

the coverage on the news at 1:30 when the story broke was good and it shows how good katie derham is and how unlucky they are that shes leaving however the news at 6:30 and after that the coverage was poorer the only well crafted report came from Geraint Vincent they didant use UK editor Angus walker when this is a sort of story you think they would

PS: Do you think Geraint has stopped presented the weekend news and how come he is never on 1:30/6;30

Glad to hear - ITV News' coverage of the Haiti earthquake was brilliant. Very little fluffy wording used at the time, if I recall correctly, unlike literally everything else covered by them since.

According to SKYs epg, it says he is scheduled next saturday, but all the times he has been scheduled; he ends up reporing on a major story. The first time since the alligment was the floods. No doubt something else will happen this week. The epg was also wrong yesterday, when romillybpresented rather than new commer andrea. Nina hasn't presented for around 4 weeks now (weekend news).

I have a few questions:
Now that it is confirmed that Nina will take over katie, will she become a face of itv news?
Is andrea set to take over Nina's current position?
If not, who would be next in line, sally bidulph? Romilly? Alex?

I think at the time either myself or somone on here said it might be like the China earthquake and win an award.

This just proves that if they cover it like they did i.e. not "fluffy" then they have fantastic coverage!

Also notice Mark Austin was listed as one of the award winners - I should think he would have been their, but according to his Mirror colummn his in South Africa ( whether for ITV News/ Tonight, I don't know)

It has been confirmed that Nina will take over Katie's role on London Tonight but so far nothing has been said about a replacement for Katie on the national news.
I expect that James and Nina will continue to fill-in for Mark, Julie, Alastair and Mary, (mainly for Alastair when it comes to the lunchtime news but still in the same capacity).

Given that Nina will, presumably, be working four or five days a week on London Tonight we probably will see less of her and more of Romilly et al. at the weekends.
