Someone needs to start a thread or indeed an entire Facebook group demanding the old News at Ten be brought back (at the same time as praising them on the rest of the bulletins to get them on side)
Well that didn't take long .
That seems like an obvious shortcoming of courting 'social media' - do they take notice of the minority who express an opinion or just ignore them?
Personally I'd demonstrate strong leadership and delete such topics .
NaT is the first time I've seen the new look on TV all day, and I'm sorry, but I hate it, it feels like I'm looking at a set of double yellow lines on a road or something, the graphics are too large. The music is okay and I like the voiceover, but this is so píss poor in comparison to the News At Ten look, I'm sorry ITV News, if it ain't broke, why fix it?
It feels like News At Ten has been robbed again and back to ITV News....
Well... with all the distinct News at Ten branding gone it would now be easy for ITV to move the news back to 10.30pm in the future. It won't happen while Michael Grade's still in charge. But it might well once he's gone in a few months.
On the other hand, I was always a bit sceptical about what seemed like the cynical attempts to use so much of the classic News at Ten branding... the deliberate use of titles and a set so similar to the 1988 look, for instance, and the return of Trev.
But what right have I to say any of this? I watch the BBC News at Ten O'Clock because I much prefer its CONTENT. In the old days I often watched both the Nine O'Clock News and News at Ten - both had much to commend them - but given the choice for me it's always BBC News. The Times or The Guardian instead of the Mail or the Express.
This revamp is nearly great. However, they need to give the bulletins more of a differentiation.
I would make the background yellow/light grey heavy at lunchtime, then mid-grey with some yellow in the evening, and dark grey/light black (lol) at Ten. The opening titles should reflect this - they should be unified but light, mid and dark for the time of day.
Moreover, the name checks should come back. It's not exactly difficult for reporters to record 3, or even two, an "ITV News" and "ITV News at Ten". The "ITV" bit is fine but it should be "ITV News at Ten" not "ITV News, at Ten" IMO.
News at Ten needs to feel different and like the flagship bulletin. It should be darker and more authoritative.
I'd also prefer it if the announcer came after all the headlines were announced but that's by the by.
