I don't think Katie leaving was anything down to ITN though, as frustrated as she may be at being overlooked for the top jobs. It seems it was more about her wanting to move on and try something new - and something that allows her to embrace a long held passion.

James Mates seems to have been hosting the lunchtime news pretty regularly lately, and I suspect we'll probably see Alastair do an extra day a week with James and probably Nina taking up the slack. Be interesting to see though if Mary might begin to host it regularly, though I guess a lot depends on who gets the London Tonight job - if it does go to Nina I suspect she'll pretty much do exactly as Katie does now.

But can Nina be that committed to it, it must be quite hard with two very young children and travelling... hopefully a shared role may be introduced between Nina and another presenter say Alex Hyndman Very Happy

I agree, Katie has chosen to leave because she has a great opportunity to pursue something about which she feels passionately. My reservations are that though it's quite possible the attraction of working with the BBC in the classical music arena is such that Katie would have taken the job anyway, I think both she and ITV News would have benefited from her having been given at least equal 'billing' with Mary and Julie for these past four or five years.

And there is Steve Scott full time in London now isn't there, so plenty of options

Although Steve has been appointed Sports Editor, so not entirely sure what that means for his presenting duties given that none of the other Editors (Tom Bradby, Daisy McAndrew, Lawrence McGinty, Chris Choi etc) present bulletins.

Sports Editor though is pretty much a non-job which changes as often as the time of the late news. Geraint Vincent and Felicity Barr regularly presented during their tenures, so Steve Scott will be no different. All it really means is he gets to go to the World Cup, and perhaps if he's wise enough to stick with it a couple of years he'll be one of the key correspondents for the 2012 Olympics when everyone else is watching the 2012 Olympics on the BBC.

You could well be right but actually Geraint and Felicity were never Sport’s Editors, just sports correspondents (like Richard Pallot used to be and Natalie Pirks is now). As far as I’m aware, Steve is the first to be given the title and that’s really the point I was trying to make – none of the other Editors present, so it will be interesting to see if Steve continues. Guess its just a case of wait and see?

I think Graham Miller may have been Sports Editor in years gone by as well . . .
