Why are they still coming live from downing street?

Not enough money for fuel? Congestion charge?

Because it's been the biggest day in British politics for years. The BBC, C4 and Sky are also on location.

exactly , there not that often on location, so it makes a nice change, plus yesterday and today is a 'fairly' big story that's why 90% of the stories today were about the election! Laughing

and plus the "Not enough money for fuel? Congestion charge" makes litlle sense - what do you actaully mean by that, apart from being sarcastic?

I imagine that tomorrow will be back in the studio? or perhaps just either Mary or Alastair on their own on location?

I would say much of the on-location stuff on all channels has been pointless in recent days considering the action has been going on all over the place - often the stuff anchored from a studio base seemed to work better.

Back to the "where did it all go wrong?" debate and no doubt it took a big hit with the original axing of News at Ten - I don't think though that's anything to do with losing the ITN brand - I don't think that's as important as people like to make out, it's just more coincidence. It didn't help then that just as the Nightly News found it's place, it got axed for News at When. And then just as that got on it's feet, it got axed for the 10.30, and then the cycle was repeated again and I think many feel News at Ten was axed again when it went generic in November - and the growth the bulletin saw in ratings since Mark Austin took over seems to have evaporated.

Losing the news channel was also a massive blow - and it took ITV some time to recover - indeed I'm not sure they ever did. ITV's reputation wasn't helped either when they found the space that wasn't available just months earlier to launch ITV Play - and we all know how that ended!

BTW, someone on Digital Spy contacted ITV today to ask why they didn't go with rolling news coverage last night. Their reply - ITN deal with news coverage so ask them - nothing to do with us!

Tom Bradby truly is a great journalist. The conclusion to his report tonight was of his excellent standard and it allows the viewer to relate to how unorthodox the setup is, whilst also being inviting and informative. Who said biased was required?!

It won't happen, but another major revamp is needed.

Not at all - the look is fine. The style though and it's clear the approach of focusing on the people behind the stories isn't bringing in the viewers, so ITV really need to up their game and go back to setting the news agenda rather than following it - so basically send Mark Austin off to the Antarctic again or something!

ITV News though lost a lot of credibility on Tuesday night though due to the idiocy of ITV schedulers.

The look is fine? Give over, the astons and graphics are horrible and the set lacks authority and looks cheap.

The titles are also horrible.

When does Katie leave for the BBC?

Any word on who will replace her?

When does Katie leave for the BBC?

Any word on who will replace her?

It was mentioned on Radio 4 that Katie will be moving across to the BBC in June, though not exactly when.

As for who will take over presenting Katie's bulletins; the only thing I have heard on the subject was ITN's original statement that they believe they have sufficient cover within their current line-up, which suggests they won't be rushed into hiring anyone new. (Though that seems eminently sensible, they would have been better served by ensuring they hung on to Katie so I have little faith in them.)

I don't think Katie leaving was anything down to ITN though, as frustrated as she may be at being overlooked for the top jobs. It seems it was more about her wanting to move on and try something new - and something that allows her to embrace a long held passion.

James Mates seems to have been hosting the lunchtime news pretty regularly lately, and I suspect we'll probably see Alastair do an extra day a week with James and probably Nina taking up the slack. Be interesting to see though if Mary might begin to host it regularly, though I guess a lot depends on who gets the London Tonight job - if it does go to Nina I suspect she'll pretty much do exactly as Katie does now.
