does anyone else think the voiceover is in the wrong place??
I think it should go right at the end, just before the first story.
Currently it's voiceover, bong, headlines, then sting. - surely it should go just before/after the sting??

It's in the place it should be IMO, but it needs to be much snappier - "ITV News with Mary Nightingale and Alistair Stewart" is all it needs, with only News at Ten getting a time check.

Love though how all those who are over nostalgic about the ITN of the past though are seemingly hating a definate nod back to the golden era of news on ITV.

Just a snippet from the report:

Quote:
This human approach will be even more in focus in the format of our new look – vivid images of the stories of the day form the title sequence, panels throughout the programmes will show tightly cropped pictures of the people at the heart of the most compelling stories. Where are Big Ben and the bongs, you may ask? Don't worry, they're still very much part of what we do – they just aren't the main focus of the new title sequence. Big Ben is our brand heritage, the bongs are the sound of ITV News – they are still with us, but in a new setting.

This isn't "just another revamp" – it's about defining our brand and having it showcased from the start to the finish of every news programme. Our "Bringing the Facts to Life" promise will be trailed in promos across ITV1 and in a prominent poster campaign.

Tune in, watch and judge for yourself. Today is confirmation that in a crowded market ITV News is a distinctive brand with a unique approach that puts the human at the heart of every story.

I have to say, I agree with most of that! Especially the 'this isn't just another revamp' bit. Can this thread be re-named as I think todays new look is a tad more than just a 'brand realignment'! The human bit is a bit scary though, makes us sound like lifeless props in front of a TV!

Just looking at the screencaps & it looks like the news is actually related to ITV.... I'm so glad the god-awful teals and blues have gone.

I like it.

Think that the studio could do with some edges but love the camera zoom round the stories, then to end up in the studio - almost seamless.
Also think that the timing on the open when the clockface is shown along with the familiar "Duhhhhh Du Du Dhhhhhh" is fantastic.

I like the new theme BUT of course, being me, I would have preferred they kept the whole of the 'Awakening' stabs (with the techno backing etc).

Mary's side intro on the 6.30 seemed awkward as well. But apart from that, all seems good.. time will tell.

As I've already stated, I do like this revamp but definitely not liking the huge astons. If only they reduced the size of the text and aligned it properly with the ITV News logo - i.e. moved everything slightly to the left - then it would be alright. Apart from that and the jerkiness of the aston animations, I'm liking this new look very much. Bit odd to have Mary stand up so far from the desk only for them to be seated for the rest of the programme. Would have been better if it went: titles > headlines > sting with both Mary and Alastair seated.

I guess the absence of the newscaster credit on the News at 6:30 was because they ran out of time; it was a quick sign-off and the music was already well into the final part.

I wasn't impressed by the chav news story featured. I get the feeling this is going to undo everything that ITV News have been trying to get away from.

I've a feeling they were just trying to attract the soap audience - remember how they trailed Britain's Got Talent endlessly during the week of the live finals, and it ended up being the "And Finally" every night.

I like the almost constant trailing of ITV News in ad breaks this evening but in all the promos so far Katie Derham appears to be absent...

I'd like News at Ten to differ slightly from the other bulletins... maybe a couple of special graphics to be used solely for NaT... anything to distinguish it from the others and give it, as the flagship, a little more prominence.

I've said this already... but I'm loving the "duh-duh-duh duh duh" motif on the opening and closing titles!

With regards to the music, does anyone know if it will be released through KPM as with previous mixes - although people said the 2006 stuff wouldn't, and it was... likewise with the 2008 NaT mix. I presume it is not by Dave Hewson/Bill Baylis as the previous mixes were?

Also to note, the 1.30/6.30 bulletins used actual images of the days' news in the title sequence, whereas the Morning News seemed to use a generic version.

Technically mocks - but an easy way to make the straps smaller and thus better:

Katie is in the Lunchtime, sorry, News at 1.30pm promo, I'm guessing that so far you have only seen the EN/NaT promo, I haven't seen any yet. I was watching the end of London Tonight whilst on the tube and caught the beginning of the News at 6.30pm - even when viewed on a phone Mary looked rather big in the opening sequence Shocked .

I'll be able to watch all the bulletins properly tomorrow so hopefully Katie will be presenting one or more of the programmes then.

Yep - itsrobert mentioned earlier in the thread that the 5:30 news will utilise the generic opening titles and I assume the weekend bulletins will do the same.

I assume it'll be released into... erm, that particular music library... in a few months or so. The same thing happened with the News at Ten package last year.

Although there are no details about, I'm inclined to believe that the same guys composed this new theme package. Listen carefully before the title sequence starts and you'll hear - very quietly - the exact same drum roll intro from the News at Ten 2008 opening theme.

I have had ITV1 on all evening and they have played two or three different versions of the same promo - Mark, Mary, Julie and Alastair in the atrium (one of these promos was posted earlier in the thread).
