If that's the case, could they not swap the News at 6.30 with the local news? I know it would mean going up against BBC, but at least people would still get that choice.


Nope, they'll drop the regional news and run through. There'll be a 5minute regional opt out if anything.

If they have to have a certain amount of Regional News, does this mean they'll be extended bulletins and so on?

I expect there is enough flexibility in the requirement of the licence to allow this to be relaxed for news of national importance.

Unlike last night too ITV can pretty much drop their entire schedule tonight - regional news could go at 7.30pm assuming there is no need for the national news at that time.

IIRC and in times of World Cup Football for example - regional news is cut to a minimum. This kind of story totally warrants rolling news and I am sure ITV News will be rolling with this story all evening.

Mark Austin said on air at 6pm that Local News would follow News At Ten - at this point last night they still were attempting an update - with tonight's news looks like there is no chance

I think they showed The Hour in the 5pm slot too, but I only saw that they were taking an ad-break before ITV.

From what I've seen STV haven't taken any of the ITV News Special today. Although their EPG on Sky is saying that they are, weirdly.
