I've no complaints about the BBC's effort, or that ITV do things differently - though it'll be a shame if the atrium remains completely unused - usually they do news reports from down there, but no one is mentioned in that role this time (it was Mary in 2001/2005).

The atrium is not being used this time round.

That's a shame. I like the atrium, and I just think that it'll feel a bit trapped, stuck in a CSO studio all night. I really like the BBC/Sky presentation style, lots of different presentation areas etc.

There will be at least five different presentation areas, so plenty of variation.

Great to see Michael Brunson make a guest appearance on News at Ten last night. Reminds me of how it was when ITV had a proper political editor...

I really have gone off ITV News since the re-brand. The new studio is tacky, the opening titles are dreadful and really the whole look of their news output is cheap and nasty. The look that they had before was so much better and I loved News at Ten and the fact that it was different to the other news bulletins. I feel really sorry for ITN having been forced to brand their news like ITV1 - it's dreadful, just dreadful.

I know! Tom Bradby, who ironically started out at ITN as Brunson's producer, isn't a patch on him.

I must say I agree to an extent. The election studio I actually like, but that's only because there is very little yellow on the set.

Surely the recent refresh of ITV1 logo and branding provided ITN with the ideal opportunity to tweak the ITV News, removing the more disappointing parts of the current look.

Katie Derham has changed a lot since joining itn. This picture made me laugh when I saw it.

Agree with sentiments that ITV News is horrible now.

The previous set was amazing, with a distinct look for News at Ten but the other bulletins looking good too (and having different backdrops for the time of day).

They could have just updated the graphics a little bit. The new studio and titles are nasty and News at Ten has lost all its gravitas.

Roll on the next one.

I'll touch upon this more in the election thread but superb job from Alastair Stewart last night and the ITV set up worked very well. They were also as promised well ahead in calling seats - at least 50 ahead by the time I went to bed around 3am.

Also watching this morning Mark Austin showing they were right to give the job to Alastair - he just doesn't seem to have quite the same grasp on the political situation to handle things as they develop live. Katie was superb though and will be much missed.

Yeah I also picked up on Mark not having the same edge as Alistair.

I prefer the election studio to the normal ITV News one. Shocked

Anyway, fabulous coverage from ITV last night I thought. Certainly kept me watching most of the night, switching to the BBC/Sky only momentarily now and then.

I think it was in the main election thread that someone made a comment about Tom Brady and him not really having a presence - I kind of agree. Chris Ship seems to be doing a better job in the role during today's coverage.
