Just a quick off-topic question for anyone who knows. Do reporters at ITN now have the ability to input names into astons (presumably via Avid)? Just wondering because Nina Nannar's "And Finally" described Leona Lewis as "Brit Nominee", then another singer as "Brits Nominee", then described Nannar as being at "BRIT AWARDS, EARL'S COURT". Would have thought that there'd be someone akin to a sub-editor ensuring these minor problems didn't occur.

And if u really want to go in to detail, the BBC regional news starts at 626 rather than 630

Exactly, whilst Newsnight hasn't begun at 10.30pm exactly since the Ten o'clock News launched a decade ago. But ITV dare to start ten seconds late once a week or so and it's all out war!

Don't be so damn petty, Brekkie. Here's my earlier response again, as you clearly didn't see it the first time:

Frankly, if you're biggest complaint about ITV News is they sometimes start a minute or two late, they must be doing something right.

My biggest complaint is not about the start time - my original comment was just an aside, an observation because the topic of the conversation was the 1:30pm voiceover.

If you're interested in what my biggest complaint is (and I doubt you are), it's the ill-thought out return to "human interest", as they're calling it.

as the news stated around 10:07 because of the Brits - I wonder if will get people moaning about it!! Laughing Laughing

Well, I'm not going to be one of those complainers this time. Wink 22:07 arguably a bit too late but totally understandable with overrunning live programming, didn't News at Ten (sorry, "ITV News. At Ten") regularly start at 22:05 during BGT week last year?

If it's a few minutes late im not that bothered, ill see it eventually. Also I really cant understand why some people opt out of ITV News for BBC or Sky, I feel that ITV News is outstanding, especially the ITV News at 10.

One reason I watch ITV News is the presenters. I just think the main presenters in general come across better and more friendly and warming than some on BBC.

Just because a lot of the news is very serious, doesn't mean the presenter has to match, and ITV's presenters most of the time seem quite upbeat if that's they right word to use.

There is a mock forum for this, as you posted it in. Don't bring your mocks here.

As well as what you say I find the BBC very informal, im used to the close team of ITV reporters and correspondents which means you get to know I guess who you are watching every night and I like the double pairings of presenters. I think ITV delivers the serious stories very well in a proffesional mannor but can also have a bit of a laugh espceially with the "And Finally's" after a hard day of work. Smile

ITV having a relatively small pool of presenters really helps a lot too - with the BBC if the regulars aren't in or if it's not a weekday sometimes you feel like they get any passer by to front the bulletins.

I agree. That's been a strength of ITV's since the very start. Having a much smaller team of newscasters, correspondents and reporters brings about that sense of familiarity that you need to put across to the viewers - one of the very few advantages of having a much smaller budget than the competition. It's always been in ITN's favour to have that smallish team and IIRC the BBC said in the 1990s that they were aiming to do the same thing, i.e. associate certain presenters with certain programmes. For years, you thought of News at Ten and Trevor McDonald sprung to mind; even before that, you thought of News at One and Leonard Parkin (although I must admit I'm too young to remember him!).

I guess BBC News' attempts to do this has worked as far as the main bulletin is concerned - think of the Ten O'Clock News and you think of Huw Edwards as the face of that programme.
