Frankly, if you're biggest complaint about ITV News is they sometimes start a minute or two late, they must be doing something right.

My biggest complaint is not about the start time - my original comment was just an aside, an observation because the topic of the conversation was the 1:30pm voiceover.

If you're interested in what my biggest complaint is (and I doubt you are), it's the ill-thought out return to "human interest", as they're calling it.

Also all the meet the team videos for reporters are now complete, a BREAKING NEWS strap is also in testing as well on other pages. I feel as if a launch will be immininent if not this week certainly next

...and complete with the much-missed News at Ten logo!

On the matter of bulletin start times, I'm sat right in the middle of the debate. In an ideal world the programmes would start at the precise time stated, but on a high profile commercial channel like ITV that just isn't going to happen. I am much more forgiving of ITV News beginning late than it starting early. The Lunchtime News really irritates me in this regard. I always forget that it starts early and regularly miss the beginning of the programme whenever I tune in.

However, I think it's unfair to state that the Evening News regularly starts a few seconds late. Whenever I watch it it always starts at 18:30 on the dot. Admittedly my radio-controlled clock usually says 18:30:02 but that's only due to the digital delay. At ITN it will start at 18:30:00 precisely. It's very rare for it to differ from this pattern.

It doesn't bother me at all if News at Ten starts late. If I tune in at the billed time I never miss the beginning, unlike the Lunchtime News. What irritates me more is the erratic scheduling at weekends. The Evening News can be at any time from 16:00 to 19:00 and the late bulletin varies from 22:00 to 00:00. This criticism is not just of ITV either - the BBC are just as guilty, though they are more consistent where the weekend late news is concerned, with most starting in the vicinity of 22:00. The only channel that seems to get it almost right is Channel 4. Their weekend news nearly always starts at 18:30 or thereabouts, though it would be better if it started at 19:00 to be consistent with their weekday programme. Many European and US broadcasters manage to keep a fixed time for news bulletins throughout the week and weekend so I can't fathom why it is so difficult for ITV and the BBC.

Have you not learnt by now that saying for certain when the website will launch without any proper knowledge is both dangerous and embarrassing? I've lost count of the times you've said it is definitely launching on a certain date and nothing has happened. It will launch when it launches.

Actually the BBC Weekend news has been a lot less erratic of late, lunchtime update at Midday on Saturdays, tea time usually around 5-530. On Sundays the news has been at 5.30 for a long time now, since countryfile moved to the evenings iirc.

As already said I think the 1.28pm bulletin is due to most viewers hanging on from Loose Women, plus the regional news runs over by a good 5 minutes so pushing it back would mean either the 2pm show will start at about 10 past, or either the national or regional bulletin would need to be cut by 2 minutes. That 2 minutes each day adds up to a good few hours off the quota each year. I agree about the Saturday bulletins though. There is no reason at all why the times fluctuate so much, but they should try to aim to get the evening one starting between 5.30pm and 6.30pm with the late one between 9.30pm and 10.30pm. I think it was on close to midnight on Saturday just gone!

I'm not sure if were fighting against the BBC here, but there have been quite a few bad timngs on the news channel; there was one just last Friday where the BBC 6 o'clock news had a five minute delay to bbc1 because there was no weather at 557. Also the BBC have failed to start on the hour several Of times because they over run oon the previous hour, and still put the contdown on, just with no time. (bAd production skills)

And if u really want to go in to detail, the BBC regional news starts at 626 rather than 630

Thats all well and dandy, but we were discussing the weekend "erratic" scheduling, and not delays on the news channel.

Exactly, whilst Newsnight hasn't begun at 10.30pm exactly since the Ten o'clock News launched a decade ago. But ITV dare to start ten seconds late once a week or so and it's all out war!

Don't be so damn petty, Brekkie. Here's my earlier response again, as you clearly didn't see it the first time:
