The American term is "anchor".

While ITN has indeed used the term "newscaster" for many years, both "newscaster"* and "anchor" are originally American terms. The concept of a journalist anchoring the news, instead of an announcer just reading it, came from the US.

* In fact, the term "newscast" is still far more common in the US than in the UK, where "news bulletin" or "news programme" is preferred.

BTW, I'd like to take this moment to thank everyone for the clips and caps of ITV News' new look! This is especially appreciated by those of us outside the UK.

Does any of this actually matter when the person in the chair is Mark Austin? That's the bigger question here.

Actually I was talking about punctuation, but happy to move to spelling.

No offense intended. Seriously, though, having dyslexia with a username like that must be a nightmare.

A case of style over substance. Best description I could think of is a surreal Salvador Dali-esque car park.

Perhaps if Alastair Stewart was dressed as a traffic warden I could relate to it.

I think I'll wait till 10 till making me mind up, but i'm not too keen from what i've seen so far - but one thing that is terrible is the name straps!! ( A video posted on here the other day , showing how the name staps could animate was 10 x better)

Also has itv news now got a tv forum account?? Very Happy
As part of ITV News' "brand realignment" we've created a social media strategy that includes a facebook page and numerous twitter accounts. Become a fan of itv news to get the latest information, news updates and pictures as well as being able to see behind the scenes footage and presenter profiles.

ITV News has it's own twitter account and our senior correspondents and editors including Economics Editor Daisy McAndrew, Crime Correspondent Keir Simmons and International Editor Bill Neely are now twittering away so become a follower to get the news as it happens as well as behind the camera gossip!

(Question - why did the continuity announcer and voiceover both refer to the 1.30 news as simply "The ITV News"? I thought it was the "The ITV News at 1.30".)

It was decided to call the lunchtime programme just "ITV News" because it actually starts at 13:28 rather than bang on 13:30. The weekend bulletins will also be branded like this.

OMG that music is absolutely stunning!!! That is the nicest TV music I have heard in a long time and it stil retains more of the traditional ITV news theme! My only hope is that ITV revert to this music.
