I presume they're still using the same astons, live dog, etc? Makes no sense when you consider that they gone to this extent at "replicating" News at Ten they've kept the (poor) ITV News astons. Could they not adapt the namestraps used for NaT?

Yep, exactly the same. The live dog etc. would be understandable, but for the main name astons as you say an adapted News at Ten one would be much better.

As for the music - I've always preferred the original 2004 theme to the 2006 remix myself, and it's even worse now we just have the drumbeats throughout without it being broken up by the titles. If anything, removing that portion of the titles makes the headline sequence feel longer, not shorter.

I timed the DVD recorder for the Lunchtime News but (for whatever reason) it failed. So I'm just basing my opinion on caps posted here and everyone's descriptions.

Here it is, seeing as you missed it, BBCNicky...

How very kind of you, Stuart. Smile

It all looked a little better than I thought it would - does anyone perhaps think that instead of the static shot we got at lunchtime, there'll be a pan across the studio (similar to NaT) on the Evening News?

Surely the camera could zoom in onto the desk, similar to what they do on News at Ten, instead of just a static shot.

Anyway, what do you think the background on the Evening News will be like? Hopefully it won't be exactly identical to News at Ten.

I have noticed that over the past few weeks, ITV News have started their weekend bulletins with no middle section.

Did anyone catch the News Summary this morning - apparently the closing music did not play correctly, until the ITN endcap appeared.

The 2004 package undoubtedly sounds that bit more fresh and appealing than the current one, the beds and the closing theme in particular. The current mix sounded very fresh and appealing when it debuted - just not that much any more.

I'd prefer the sequence to go - titles > headlines > sting - similar to how News at Ten started before they ruined the flow by having a pre-title headline.

I prefer the new set but the old way of production. With no main title section I think it is very basic.

Anyone have the coming up, headlines recap and closing titles of todays lunchtime news.

That is nasty. Much worse than the atrium. I might look better at night, but thats how the Evening News is going to look during the Summer. The only thing that is improved is the opening, much cleaner and nicer. Studio design appalling.

ITV News seemed to produce much nicer CSO backgrounds before 2004 when they used it as their full studio.

No its not how the Evening News will look in the summer. There are two versions of the backdrop for the Evening News, if you read the thread before hand you would know that!

If you'd bothered to have read the past couple of pages you will have found that the Evening News will look different to the Lunchtime News. The backdrop isn't supposed to be live- during last summer News at Ten still had a dark background when it was broad daylight outside!!

Much prefer this studio (I'm just thankful the walkway has gone) but if they're going to turn the other bulletins into News at Ten (studio wise) then they should match that with the graphics, maybe lighter for the lunchtime bulletin. I'm in the minority but I actually prefer the 2004+ music to the older one, but it just doesn't work with that set.

I suppose a real indication will come with the Evening News, as this is usually when they have all different kinds of camera angles.

I'm with you on liking the current music rather than the 2004 set. I think the current mix is a lot more punchy; the 2004 music was a bit weak, in my opinion. That said, both of them pale in comparison to the 1995-2004 orchestral themes.

It's the floor that let's it down - I've no problem with the backdrop or glass screens myself, but a better floor would be nice - something like the clockface they used to use in the other CSO studios for special reports around 2006 (I think). And a new desk would lift it too.
