I couldn't agree more.
In a later post you mentioned ITV News At Nine. I watched every bulletin of that. It lasted either 3 or 4 weeks. Helped by a war being on and following the popular Coronation Street, News At Nine regularly got around 10 million viewers. As mentioned, it was presented by Trevor, in Kuwait each night and John Suchet in London, I am sure during that period both John and Trevor only had the one day off for the entire month because News At Nine was on even at weekends but a reduced service at that - 15/20 minutes instead of 30.
Even at one time, the air raid sirens went off when Trevor was on live and handed to John whilst showing his fancy gas mask off.

I was thinking today, ITV was a good broadcaster in the 1990's - early 2000's. With the announcement today of profit loses and job cuts, it would make sense if they reverted back to the old ITV, but with a 21st century twist, but not like the new Krypton Factor. Even trying to get the ITV Bulletins, back to the (supposed) quality of the 1990's, when branded ITN.
I couldn't agree more.

Also, there was a further news bulletin headed by John Suchet at around 11.15 nightly on ITV.

I know this is going to be quite an unpopular opinion but I'm not convinced the quality of news has slipped from how it used to be as such. Admittedly the delivery is more sensationalist, although they have cut back on this a great deal lately especially when News at Ten returned, and subsequently when the News at Ten set was rolled out across all bulletins. But in terms of quality we do still get a lot of quality reports from ITN, but they show more pointless stories these days, for example today having Fern Britton in the headlines sequence. Its that kind of stuff that dilutes ITV News because it just comes across as a shameless plug for their own shows.
If you watch an old bulletin and remove the rose tinted glasses then the bulletins won't be that much different from now. I remember someone posting about how they watched an awful bulletin from the 80's which wouldn't have looked out of place today.
