Yes id say Katie is the longest serving - she has been there since about 1998.
I noticed Katie did all 3 bulletins yesterday - however on weekend that happens all the time with 1 presenter doing all 3 and working a 12+ hour shift.
Yes, and the crew regularly do up to 12 hours shifts.
ITV News have signed a deal with Visual Impact and Top Teks for new broadcasting equipment (included are 68 High-Def Sony Z5 cameras, microphones, lighting, tripods and Avid capable laptops). Training for the new equipment will be based at ITV Central in Birmingham.
By doing this, it hopes to "widen the scope of its news coverage" apparently - this coming after the drastic cut-backs to regional programming.
Considering how long it took them to go widescreen I don't think we'll be seeing ITV News in HD for some time yet. I have a feeling C4 News might be the first to make that leap (bulletin wise anyway) - the BBC are too worried about passing upscaled pictures off as HD to push ahead with it sooner rather than later.
I was up late last night and had the TV on - managed to catch the 1:20am news summary on ITV1. Steve Clamp was the presenter, I gather it was his first time, he seemed alright (better than Geraint...!).
Wasn't it mentioned in the Central News thread that he'd be moving to the nationals only this week? Very quick transition. I guess he'll be a relief overnight presenter whenever Faye Barker is absent.
It really surprises me that despite all the cutbacks the overnight news summaries still remain. You would have thought they'd have been the first thing to go.

This is not a move to HD, this is a move to reporter shot packages. The Z5 is a reporter used camera, much smaller than a craft camera, and worse quality. Definetely not a move to improve quality.
Many of these cameras are already being used, and abour half of the reporters have been trained. It follow ITV regions letting go about half of their cameramen.
I know it is a while back now, but I seem to remember catching the end of the EN, when Mary was presenting on her own (I think Mark was in Zimbabwe). I think I can remeber the caps someone posted on TV Forum, just wondering how did the opening titles work with one presenter - did they do the normal swoop or just a still (like the weekend news)?
Does anybody have any clips of how it opened?
*Plus when the programme closed have they ever shown infront of the desk (apart from above), behind the scenes or have they always shown the normal studio shot?

I didn't realise they were still there! Thought they had been binned off when ITV Play dominated Night Time. There can't be no more than one or two summaries per night now surely?
