There must be something wrong because Romilly wouldn't really return before Nina and London Tonight wouldn't feel the need to hire a presenter to present since November for a full week. ITV really need to sought out there staffing issues and stop having Katie and Mary swapping shifts to cope with the shortages. And hasn't Nina had long enough. It seems she has been off for ages.

I think Nina went on maternity leave in mid-September, so she's been gone just over 5 months. When Sian Williams had her last baby she was off for at least 7 months. I suppose it just depends. But Nina will probably be returning soon.

2 things to say about ITV News.

1) The thing I really like about is that you get a double anchored program. I feel that having two anchors makes the program be that regional or national more fun and less dull IMO.

I feel the double-anchored programmes are un-needed, but everyone to their own!

I've checked the Radio Times and Romilly isn't on any upcoming bulletins, the listings go until the end of the first week of March I think. So could she be off again? And Nina could return mid-March or as late as September 2009 if she is to return.

Has Alex Hyndman been co-presenting full weekly editions of London Tonight since November 2008, with a reporter standing in on only a few occasions?

Edit: Btw - I mentioned earlier that Nina left mid September with Romilly in October, a friend of mine works at ITN and knew.

A slight fault there at the end of News at Ten, all of the VR generated set seemed to move to the right then, it made it look like the desk and its platform were being wheeled out stage Left.

Can't Nina have up to 12 months off for maternity leave? If Romilly is back already it doesn't mean something has gone wrong, you don't have to take off much time, she might need the money especially in these times. But if she isn't listed for soon and Lucy is still donig the odd bulletin then they're probably going to ease her back in so she gets to both work and stay at home with the baby.

About the two presenters I think it depends on the show. Lunchtime News would never work with just one presenter, it doesn't on bank holidays anyway. The other bulletins could work with just 1 presenter and I think the Evening News should be with just one, but News at Ten imo works best with two.

At the risk of sounding like JJ, if anyone has a clip I'd like to see that.

It worked perfectly fine with just the one up until 2005. It seems to flow better now, but for quite some time after it was cut back to 30-minutes following a year or two as an hour-long bulletin it felt very much over staffed with the two hosts, especially as it was structured so they were practically finishing each others sentences.

I mean in its current format- the LN at the minute is very fluffy and daytime friendly. As I've said time and time again in this thread Alastair and Katie make a good pairing and clearly enjoy presenting with each other. For such a format I think its very important to have that from the presenters.

Is the tv listings correct and the mid morning local news update axed on ITV1?

I am not in my home in the mornings but some days I am and I like the mid morning local news update. Why have they axed it?

Yes, ITV axed the mid morning regional summary just about two weeks ago. It was part of their restructuring/cost-cutting of regional news. They also axed the weekend lunchtime local round-up.

By the way is there any place you can watch ITV News online - I see that you can't watch the programmes on the ITV Player, unlike where you can watch BBC News on the I Player?

Only when it airs on ITV1, as you can watch the simulcast via ITV.com
