I'm surprised "McMahon" didn't call for ITV News to broadcast on analogue only . Why do people on here constantly want to turn back the clock?
That's an easy one. ITV news had a range of superior products 5 years ago and I watched it a lot more then. My local ITV news leaves the region tomorrow and I won't feel like watching it next week.
I do get fed up with reading all these criticisms of ITV News, it's not nearly as bad as people make out. There's barely anything to distinguish them from the offerings on BBC One these days - in fact, I'd suggest that the criticisms should be aimed more towards the BBC for not offering this hard-hitting, in-depth analysis you all seem to crave.
I think ITV News have it just right these days, and I'd choose them over the BBC anyday.
Can anybody tell me where abouts on the clock background, the camera is facing on the weekend news?
Last night the single camera shot on Steve looked like the opening to the EN (by the male presenter), but Steve was sat in the middle of the desk.
Steve was sat in the middle of the desk. Though I presume the camera would be positioned to the right of the desk, with the on-screen view being of the left hand side of the clock on the newswall. Make sense?
You can clearly tell ITV has done more harm to its national news over the last decade than good and I feel very sorry for ITN for that to happen. ITN's news once a beacon of hard-hitting news reports now relegated to cheap news.
I'm afraid I'm not with you there. ITV News has had its fair share of criticisms but I believe it's much improved - to me it's much more watchable than it was in, say, 2005-6. It did go through a somewhat bad patch - namely with nonsense such as "The Pulse", the option for people to 'text in their thoughts' (more suited to regional news?) and the dubious order of stories on some bulletins - but I feel it has been slowly recovering. Never mind
"once
a beacon of hard-hitting news" - it always has been, even when they had all the crap like "Uploaded" (which IIRC didn't last that long!). In any case, it's definitely just right at the moment.

It also irritates me the time taken to say "Visit our website for more information at itv.com/news", you can add another story in the News In Brief section. I do not go on itv.com or that many websites because I do not see the point, but it gets drummed into you that many times.
The website plug occurs only once a bulletin - it's hardly 'drummed' into you. It's there for those who have the internet and want to view more substantial versions of interviews, etc etc, that have appeared on the programme.

Also, News At Ten should be the only bulletin with two newscasters. Mark Austin and Julie Etchingham are good but not that effective.
If anything, the only head-to-head bulletin should be at 1 o'clock: News At One with Katie Derham? The Evening News moved back to 5.40, to fill a whole in ITV's crap schedule, presented by Mark Austin and Mary Nightingale alternally? And News At Ten with Alastair Stewart and Moira Stuart
try and poach her, at least
.
I think NaT is just right as it is too - Mark and Julie present well together. Truthfully I'd like to see Alastair present the bulletin on occasion - not sure why it hasn't happened yet. As for the Lunchtime News - it desperately needs to be put back to 12:30. That's what they should have done when they cut it back down to 30 minutes from 60. The 6:30pm bulletin should stay where it is - moving it could jeopardise it's viewing figures (it's currently the most watched news bulletin on ITV1, bar the Sunday evening edition). I've got nothing against Moira Stuart, but would she even want to work at ITN? Where would Julie go too?
JJ, are you determined to become the ITV News thread's answer to Worzel, harping on about the bloody background 20 times a day?! For goodness sake, give it a rest.
Strange choice of background tonight - using the News at Ten background, even though the EN uses a different background colour in the same time slot.
The one thing I like about this new look, is the lack of titles and nice simple opening to the summary. Long titles seems out of fashion now, like Sky Sports News, GMTV and Sky News have done. The flow is much better.
It seems strange how they changed the swipes and coming up graphics to blue, but the clockface sting is still teal. Still looks nice though. They daytime background needs a colouring in front of it, like the atrium, as its too busy.
ITV News does seem to be going back in the right direction after a rough patch over the last couple of years. The Weekend bulletin seem to be back more at the heart of the schedule too, rather than at 4.30pm and midnight - although on Saturday they still needlessly interrupt films for the news when it would be better off airing before or after.
Next week it's in the middle of The Bourne Identity at 10pm, when it could just as easily wait until the film finishes around 11.10pm - yet when the news could air at 10pm followed by a film at 10.15pm, they put the film on first then the news midway through. If cutbacks do begin to affect the national news, I'd guess one of the weekend bulletins would be the first to go.
