Not covering the local elections show that ITV are giving up covering events that matter to the british people; it would have been nice to have seen Alastair with the graphics if they had covered the event

Yes, that is true. The other day he did do the Briefing on the News at 10.30, which I found highly interesting. His expertise in the area is beyond that of many of ITV News' correspondents.

Although it was not in great detail, our local region, Anglia, had a local elections special on thursday night. However it was only on til midnight when The Mint came on.

Same with Granada, they just had a special edition of Party People, which was scheduled there anyway. I noticed ITV1 London was showing the documentary about that lad who was affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident, to mark the 20th Anniversary, I would have thought ITV London would have done a politics programme, considering the fact alot of London Council Seats were up for grabs.

Though I think it's a shame that ITV would rather show The Mint than do an Election special, but saying that, why should they? It gets very few viewers usually, the voting didn't take place everywhere, and in times like these this where more people would flick over to the BBC for the results rather than ITV.

I agree most people would have tuned into BBC for the election results. The other choice was Sky News. Why waste money on it. I think in the past local elections have never really been covered that indepth by ITV anyway. I think a short hour or 90 minute programme after midnight.

I see that Chris Ship is now Political Reporter. Is this just a temporary post until Daisy returns from maternity leave?
