Yeah, you could see Mark Austin was trying not to laugh as he handed over to Chris Choi.

A bird flu incident room? Isn't that a little melodramatic of ITV?

I couldn't help feeling I was watching an episode of Brass Eye tonight!
No one mentioned the opening headlines then - Mark and Mary reading the first line in unison - despite being hundreds of miles apart!
Re: the Evening News. I think it's time now for the programme to drop back to one anchor again, with Mary taking the role and Mark staying with the 10.30pm and hosting the Evening News when Mary is off (about five nights a week then) - and also on location for events like tonight, with Mary hosting in the studio.
With Mark in Scotland I assume he'll also anchor the 10.30 bulletin from there, with Nina possibly taking a larger role in the studio.

More like The Day Today IMO
I put it on at 6.30pm and I just laughed, at how pathetic and OTT the whole thing was, yes fair enough make it the top story, yes send Mark up to Scotland that's fine, but after that it was more of a run for your life situation.
BONG! -> (Chris Choi) I'm here in the Newsroom telling you what you have to do......
It just looked so pathetic, what part of the fact that though we now have H5N1 on British soil means that everyone has to overreact and now die from it? It has been coming for years now, and very few people have died from it, why can't they calm down?
Then fortunately North West Tonight was on at the same time, so I switched over for a bit of sanity.

Could not agree with you more. The whole thing on the national front is definitely OTT! The national news crews do not need to come up here at all.
If they want information on the story, they only need to linkup to our John MacKay and the rest of the Scotland Today team who were LIVE at the scene this evening for the 6pm bulletin. This would have made things a hell of lot easier, wouldn't it not?
