Phil Gayle did the Morning News today.

Probably not for the first time since it's been a good few months since I was last up that early, but the first time I've seen him do a proper bulletin on ITV1.

He did the 10.50pm London Tonight last night, though he wasn't the best presenter the ITV NC ever had, it's good to see him back on-screen, he has a good way of delivering the News, and I guess seeing him again sees some form of familiarity to ITV News and London Tonight etc

I think it was mentioned in the other thread that the late bulletin presenter of London Tonight also does the overnight ITV bulletins as well as the GMTV London bulletins? A very long shift!

If you think about it; it's not really, considering people like Alastair and Katie have to be in early in the morning for the Lunchtime News and then go on to anchor London Tonight...

But I'm sure Alastair and Katie get rather a lot of time off in between surely? The last LT bulletin in the morning which that presenter does is during This Morning isn't it, or does the lunchtime presenter do that? Because in my region the morning presenter does all bulletins through GMTV and This Morning and then the main presenter takes over at lunchtime. I'm sure things are done differently in London. But at the end of the day, journalists generally have long, irregular working hours.

The 10.55 London bulletin is generally done by one of the reporters. The London weather during that bulletin is voiced by the overnight presenter, though.

I was going to ask that, I caught the 10.55am LT on Friday, Jonathan Wills was the presenter, but it sounded like Phil Gayle doing the voiceover for the Weather, I was quite surprised, as most other ITV Regions have an In-Vision Weather forecast at that time.

(Slightly OT: But I like The Blue Man Group sponsorship, very unique.)

Well on ITV Wales the GMTV Bulletin presenter ( usually Andrew Jones Mon-Thurs, someone else on a Friday) stays on to present the 10.55 bulletin. Then one of the 6pm presenters does the 1.10 bulletin. We dont get an in vision presenter for the weather on the 10.55 I dont think, I think the newsreader just does it the same as during GMTV bulletins just without sponsor.

I just thought it was quite a long shift as surely the late presenter comes in a few hours before 10.30pm to prepare for the bulletin, then they dont finish until gone 8am the next morning.

But this is only tempoary, while Joyce is away. Sometimes Chris Rodgers does the the bulletin, as well as his main lunchtime bulletin. I don't really think that the presenter needs to be in hours before the 22.55 bulletin, as it is just a summary, and most of the reports are prepackaged, and just a replay of what went out at 18.00. The weather is also pre-recorded so i suspect that the presenter does about 11 hours. There is also a varying pool of presenters, with none of them that do an 11 hour shift doing it for 2 consecutive days.

Do all the ex Carlton regions still have no in-vision weather at 10.55?

Has ITV Evening News only tonight started using the daylight background for the window with the light nights now?

No Friday was the first time the lighter background was used, i don't know why it was not used for the rest of last week, considering it was light, for once the regions got it right, as they have been using the lighter backgrounds for the past few weeks, with the network lagging behind. Although one intresting point is that they used the light background during the comming up on the itv Evening News part during the regions bulletins. I also think that the whole of the newsroom seemed lighter, probably a lighter filter on the newswall, to ad to the illusion of the window at the end of the atrium.
