Interesting interview with Mark Austin in today's Evening Standard in which he says that he thinks it's a shame that ITV felt unable to invest in the news channel.
Interesting idea, and one that was considered. However, it tends to be far more restrictive in terms of studio use and camera shots than the chosen window layout.
But it does beg the question, if you don't feel the current look works, but the image must remain in the wall, how could this be improved? Answers in a mock design.......

I say it that way, as it doesn't create a huge split from the atirum. Plus, where that current video is, when no story is displayed, it would display an animated ITV news video, so short bulletins could open from a side shot, like the pre 2004 era. Plus this opens up a return of single presenter shots on double bulletins.
With the current look, the newswall images need to be more transparent, and less contrasted.
Well the News Channel of the year award is judged on the basis of performance in 2005 - not on whether the channel is currently operating. So it SHOULDN'T - in theory - make any difference. Although in practice the jurors will all know the circumstances of the channel's closure.
