Katie presented it today and on Monday. I think it was Romilly yesterday and Mary is due to present it tomorrow.

I was surprised to see Alastair Stewart present today's Lunchtime News, especially as the whole programme was about the election, and part of the programme was hosted by Mark Austin in Washington. I did think that they would do an 'in other news' section, but nope. The programme could have been presented by Mark with Katie used if needed, if only to give Alastair a lie in.

I enjoyed ITV's election coverage, and as was said on the election coverage thread, it reminded me of how good Live With Alastair Stewart was, maybe they should try and fit it into daytime in a sort of the wright stuff way.

Indeed the Evening News was entirely hosted by Mark in Washington; no other news. Incidentally tonight's News at Ten runs from 10:00-10:50; I wonder if an extra five or so minutes has been tacked on for 'other news' or something, so the main bulk of the programme can focus on Obama. Or perhaps the whole bulletin has been extended so that more time can be spent on covering the election? 'What this will mean for America'... etc etc (and yes, I do know that the regional news will run from 10:40 to 10:50. Or perhaps 10:57 knowing ITV's scheduling).

Interesting to see Lucy just presenting the This Morning bulletin, I assume she'll be on the Lunchtime News as well.

Well she said she would be back with Alastair for that.

The Freeview EPG, which has been otherwise correct this week, says it should be Mary today (and Lucy tomorrow).

I loved ITN's coverage of the Presidential Election. And quite a coup for ITN to have Martin Luther King's daughter on it, who "normally doesn't accept interviews".
Despite myself being in my mid-20s, elections fascinate me and I can vividly recall the first time I deliberately watched an election: The 1992 American Presidential Election on Nov. 3rd, beating George Bush Senior. [I'm pretty sure John Suchet was the ITN anchor. If not, I'm sure he was on it].

Reading my previous posts, it does sound like I am an ITN-obsessive, but I am not. As I stated in the Election thread, I have totally given up on the BBC. Jeremy Vine's dancing in the virtual studio <shudder> and I don't see the point of news channels, so I can't comment on Sky.
The whole point of writing that, is to say, ITV, or rather ITN, excelling itself once more, with its presentation. Having an old hand such as Alastair Stewart to anchor and having guests relevant to the story was good. The old man statistican, Bob Worcester, went into detail and I laughed a few times, when Alastair and Bob tried to correct each other. It sounded like they were arguing!

After watching Julie Etchingham on it, and we saw her 'be her normal self' at times, my opinion of her has changed. Better, but not totally brilliant as a newscaster. Still way better than Nina Hossain.

We saw quite a bit of John Irvine and Bill Neely, didn't we! James Mates was on, what, only once!

It is a shame. It really is. 300,000 viewers on the far superior [in presentation] ITV and 1 million watching the quite dull BBC effort. I watched 25 minutes of it and thought it was rather lacklustre.
Good job, ITN!

ITN quite regularly put on a better performance than the BBC or Sky. They're a very polished team - sadly a lack of resources and a lack of esteem from ITV means most of the time their good work goes unnoticed.

Very true. It's a credit to ITN's staff that they can put on such excellent programmes given their minuscule resources and budget compared to the likes of BBC News and Sky News. People always seem to link ITN with just ITV News which, in my opinion, is unfair. ITV is merely ITN's client and they are just providing the news service that they want. ITN as an organisation is capable of so much more, evident in their production of Channel 4 News and the election special.

I wonder if ITN had made an election special for C4 rather than ITV whether it might have done better in the ratings. I'm sure it still would have been a long way off the BBC's figures, but considering the type of viewer likely to stay up through the night for a US election programme, I would think they're more likely to tune into C4 News than ITV News.

I suspect whether it was on ITV or Channel Four - if it had been presented from the US rather than London it would have done better. If it had had more US pundits and experts, and more Republican and Democratic representatives from the campaigns it would have done better.
