Katie on the Evening News for the second week in a row, looks like Nina has definitely left, and finally too, she was huge!

I know its only a small thing but at the end of the news, why do they always say "now its time to find out whats on News at Ten, here's Trevor & Julie with the details"? It seems a bit awkward the way they say it and "now its time to find out whats on News at Ten" would be enough. OK I know its a small thing but small things annoy me Laughing

There's nothing 'awkward'-sounding about it... I don't get what you mean, it just lets you know who's presenting the programme...

Granted it did sound sort of 'awkward' earlier on tonight but that's only because Mark left a three-second gap before saying "Here's Trevor and Julie..."!

It was great to see Katie on the Evening News again today and, according to the Freeview EPG, she'll be presenting that (along with the Lunchtime News) from Monday to Friday next week as well Cool.

It sounded as if Mark added "here's Trevor and Julie with the details" as an ad-lib, but I don't usually watch the Evening News so wouldn't know if that's how they always lead in to the News at Ten trail.
As you acknowledge Tom, it's only a small thing of little consequence and without the brief delay before the last part of the sentence it would sound perfectly natural either way.

One thing that annoys me is at the end of the late regional news. The sign off after the weather is far too long. "thats all for tonight, were back in GMTV, visit itv local.com, ITV continues through the night" Is all this really necessary?

Mary and Geraint on the Evening News tonight. A bit strange, that Mary's been off for a few days, and is back tonight - I wonder why Romilly isn't just staying on... Rolling Eyes

Romilly may be co-presenting London Tonight, with Alastair Stewart if he was on the Lunchtime News.

Mary's been on and off for a while now, then again, not as bad as Katie Derham 'due to her Maestro commitments'.

Well they dont do that on the late North East News - they simply say itvlocal.com, "next it's the weather, goodnight" or something to that effect.

Relatively short sign-off here in Yorkshire too; just something like, "The weather's up next, we're back in GMTV tomorrow morning. From the late team, goodnight..."

Here in the south-east they say "Well that's how the south-east looks this evening do remember to contact us if you've got a story you would like to get in touch. And you can catch up with all of our news around the clock at itvlocal.com. But from me and all of the late team goodnight."

Salma co-presented today's London Tonight with Alastair.

I think Mary's absence draws comment because unlike Katie, who tends to be involved with readily identifiable alternative work commitments or on holiday when she isn't reading the news, Mary seems to have a lot of holidays as well as quite a few random days off, but I'm sure she still fulfils her contractual obligation so what she does is entirely up to her.

BTW, Mark Austin is on Al Murray's Happy Hour in a couple of minutes Shocked .

A bit of damage-limitation for his 'attack' on autocuties I think Wink
