And yet you waded into the Age discrimination thread and suggested it was getting too personal.
Hypocritical much?

In hindsight, my opinion about Nina Hossain was abrupt. I am still not a huge fan of her, however, the section of Nina-bashing were a bit over-the-top. As I say, she is alright for local news but, not really, for national news. Or if so, overnight news. Now, that is my opinion.

I like her too but she's in no way brilliant, not as good as Mary, Katie, and Julie IMHO. Romilly may come across as a bit dour but I like her anyway..

I like Nina, she has a very calm approach to presenting and doesn't come across as better than the viewer. But I think she is much better when she presents alone.

Oh Mark, claws out at Geraint!
I did think it was a little odd when the Mirror allowed Mark Austin to be one nof their collumnists. If Mark wants (another) promotion at ITN, he needs to learn the meaning of ''impartial'' and ''integral.'' Slamming his own job and giving his own, usually **** opinions of what he reports of, is going to get him a one way ticket to the unemployment line.

Setting the bar a bit low aren't you?

Not really. But then again you are a Nina 'addict' so would expect to hear such nonsense from you. Julie oozes gravitas and reads the news with ease, she doesn't turn her "s"'s into "z"'s and doesn't look as miserable as sin, unlike a certain other female presenter at ITN.
Oh - and she actually understands what the term "banter" means, i.e., if her co-presenter cracks a joke at the end of a bulletin, she doesn't just sit there looking drearily unimpressed, wishing she'd opted to swap shifts.

Gravitas isn't needed anymore IMO. It may have been needed in years gone but these days most people look elsewhere for their news, so sometimes someone with a friendly approach (such as Nina) can be quite refreshing. However with the forum that we're on I'm not expecting people to agree with me here ...

Okay, I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have used the word "gravitas"!
What I meant to say was that Julie appears a lot more friendlier (to me anyway) than Nina. I don't know why that is but to me she doesn't seem particularly bothered about what she's reading. Maybe that's an advantage, maybe you're right in saying that newsreaders nowadays should just be there to simply read the facts - impartially - from an autocue, maybe they don't have to build a 'solidarity' with the viewer like presenters from years gone by; after all, clear concise info is what your average Joe really wants isn't it. If they don't get that then, yes, they'll go elsewhere for their news.
Maybe I'm just stuck in a time capsule...

Re: the link to the article above... who exactly are these handsome men on 24 hour news channels Mark Austin speaks of? Am I watching the wrong channels?!
